I mean it's not like Quinn Hughes just became elite this year. He's been the best player on the Canucks since the bubble. Dude has been elite ever since he came to the NHL.
The OP was talking about all around defencemen. Hughes obviously has taken his overall game to another level this year.

Butch & the Devs guy were discussing whether Dobson deserved All Star consideration last night, lol. He's a shoe-in. I'd be fine if he were the *only* Islander player selected.

I'm not even going to mention which defenseman his game is starting to resemble lately, because jinxes. The reason why his point totals are up are the kinds of impressive secondary assists we saw last night. He started the plays that resulted in 3 of NYI's 4 goals, and many other good attempts. I dunno about power of tower, but he's definitely the tall straw that stirs the drink. His decision making has improved a ton, and I wonder if that's really because now his teammates follow his lead rather than him trying to fit in. Makes me think NYI should put Pelech & Pulock back together after injury, and let Dobson be in charge with Romanov.

@PWJunior I love the Tomas Jonsson mention. I learned to appreciate him by seeing him live. NYI would score goals nowhere near him, but he'd be responsible for them all the same.

Aside from his sophomore year Quinn has been under rated as an overall Dman.

Sure he has more points this year and his +/- is higher but this Quinn Hughes has been around for a while.

Dobson is progressing very well into a huge MPG #1 Dman type and the league is in a golden age for Dmen right now.

Which makes no sense either. Considering Hughes has been a very good all around defenseman... since the bubble.

I'd wager Hughes has been a better defensive player than Dobson so far in his career (which has been a let down so far, but his offense has been a surprise).

Don't get me wrong I really like Dobson as a player, but to put down a player to prop up another has always been a pet peeve of mine.

I need the Pulock-Pelech pairing to return badly, they are so much better together than separate.

This is the first time in his pro career where he is playing a man's game. He's yapping on the ice now and adding a (tiny itty bitty lol) bit of snarl to his game I've been dying to see.

Perfect example of staying patient with a young Dman (who also had one of the more unique development tracks in recent history, essentially Red Shirting his rookie year).

Happy to see him succeed, been following him since he was the stud D to watch in the mem cup. He was touted as an all rounder, but turns out he's just as offensively tilted as the other two D in his draft year. That was an impressive year, it's a shame that Boqvist didn't develop like the other 4.

He's the islanders best offensive defenseman since Malakhov. He's getting damn close to being a true #1, which makes me happy because I can eat a ton of shit soon. Isles badly need to get themselves reinforcements on the line, but he's played about 26-29 minutes a night on average.

Pelech, Puloch and Mayfield are all injured(that is 3 of the top 5). Until they come back a waiver pick up and a guy traded for a 7th round pick are all we going to get for reinforcements
