Too lazy to dig through. Why exactly is he leaving? Is there a specific reason or ...?
You would expect after the successful season they had he would want to stay and build on that

No specific reasons given. Everybody is saying the same thing: we wanted him back. He wanted to stay. We offered him a big deal.

Most speculation centres around Shapiro wanting final say on personnel moves and AA balking at tht idea.

I'm starting to think it's something simpler: maybe the two just don't like each other.

Who knows. Eventually it will come out.

He didnt say, but you can make some educated guesses. IMO, Rogers is cheap, Shapiro knows how to work under a budget, Shapiro reportedly scolded AA for trading prospects. I personally think that Shapiro and Rogers dont want to spend a ton of money. I think AA wanted to go all out this offseason, showing improved attendance and viewership as the main reasons to increase payroll now because the window is obviously getting closer to closing every season that goes by. Right now seems like the perfect time to go all out for it. AA wouldnt be able to execute his plan with Shapiro looking over and not really helping him by pitching to Rogers to open their pockets, so AA just left because he wouldnt be able to do what he wanted with this team. Maybe he felt he had done enough to warrant him getting full power over baseball moves, something I think he had with Beeston here. Just my opinion on what I think may have happened.

I'm not pissed about Shapiro coming in and taking over

I'm just disappointed him and AA couldn't agree on working terms. It would have been amazing to have the 2 of them working for this organization. Its a shame really

Even with that in mind, you would think they'd have one of the best farms in the league. Doesn't look like it to me.

That's true, but they should probably get some credit for the development of Brantley, Kipnis, Santana, Lindor, Gomes, Kluber, Carrasco and Salazar.

What is that opinion based on?

When I was looking at Shapiro's record, I admit my first thought was that it was similar to JP's (minus the playoff appearances). Which made a lot of sense. During the JP era the Jays behaved like a mid-medium market team. Lower payrolls, etc, etc. Very similar to Cleveland.

I never once thought of comparing them on a personality basis, because I have no idea what Shapiro is like.

Base on his critiquing of trades that AA made to get Price etc. JP told everyone who would listen just how good he thought he was.....same for Shapiro....he was also seen shaking his head during the playoffs games....again thinking that he is vastly superior to others.

It is quite amazing how there was mostly nothing but negativity towards AA for 6 years and because of 1 good season now all the fans are upset he's gone.

The Jays almost made the world series. You can understand the disgruntled fans seeing him leave Maybe you didn't notice the excitement in Toronto. I seen the other two world series and experienced it first hand. This was entirely different. This city is beyond hungry for a winning team.

Shaking his head during Jays playoffs games?

And none of us know if he really "critiqued" those deals or if it was just two baseball guys talking about whether or not they would have made that move. I know this "Shapiro scolded AA for his trades" story is going viral, but I have also seen a number of highly regarded media people say that is a mischaracterization of the conversation.

Very, very probable. AA probably hates Shapiro for not giving the okay for the Carrasco trade this season and Shapiro probably hates AA for pestering him about Carrasco so much :sarcasm:

Well tbh I once worked with a manager who wouldn't compliment you no matter what you did and found a way to criticize you no matter how good of a job you did. No one liked this person. If I was AA I might have gotten pretty pissed too that someone brand new is coming in and criticizing me for making moves to bring my team into the postseason for the first time in forever.

Yes. Plenty of baseball minds. More money = better/more scouts = better chance at draft picks. You seem to disregard Cleveland having one of the best rotations in the league as well.

And that's going to change with Shapiro's arrival? When the Jays already have a good scouting department prior to AA's departure. You act as if the Jays' scouting wasn't already good during AA's tenure. I'm not disregarding the Indians' rotation (though I wouldn't say they have one of the best), but a rotation is only a rotation. The rest of the team is still very underwhelming. It's reminiscent of the Ricciardi era where the Jays' rotation was deep, but the rest of the team was hot garbage.

It is a fact it is out there and that he did not agree with the Price trade.....when you state that you would not have made that move.....what should you call it.....I call it bush....as it serves no useful purpose other then to belittle.

The scouting has been tremendous for young pitching, however, many of us have bemoaned the lack of position players produced by AA's scouting staff.

In relation to you trashing Shapiro's track record, yeah, it probably will help Shapiro out a lot that he has a lot more money to work with. I don't see how this is continuously going over your head. You realize how contradictory the second half of your post is right? A line up is only a line up. Our pitching staff is extremely underwhelming. Right now our rotation is Stroman, Dickey, (Blank), (Blank), (Blank).
