It's because (in regular years) the WJC is a holiday tradition. A celebration. It's a yearly cultural event that has become bigger than the game itself. It's not something that can be replicated in the summer.
I honestly thought it was something to do with Covid related restrictions still for people Corning from different parts of the world.Even if it’s the middle of the summer there’s absolutely no excuse for having 30 fans in the stands for the WJC. Embarrassing
The true extent of what he did was hidden for a while, actually.
It's not really "making up your own story" when Hockey Canada has already admitted to doing it.
Also, no one's "crying" for any Russians, but those players should obviously be in this tournament. It's ****ing ridiculous to exclude them.
It's all we havethe overall superiority attitude needs to end period. This should be brought up each time.
Obviously what he did was unknown for some time, that doesn't make your statement accurate. Hockey Canada "buying silence" by settling with victims of Graham James is a laughable stretch, but it is the internet and people love to grandstand. And yes, keep crying for the poor, poor Russian teens. Certainly it's unfortunate for them that Russia got itself banned. It's not as if Russia did something as horrific as settle with victims of Graham James or settle a sexual harassment allegation that produces no charges after a police investigation.
....It's not accurate that Hockey Canada has used taxpayer money to buy silence of sexual assault victims? I submit that that's entirely accurate.
But fine, call it "grandstanding" for me to state the obvious.
And yes, it is indeed unfortunate that the IIHF somehow made the rash decision to ban a team of teenage Russian hockey players from participating in their tournament while other Russian athletes have been free to compete in events around the world without any ridiculous and laughably unnecessary ban in effect.
Can't go in summer because people are busy doing summer things, as if people aren't busy on Christmas and New Years right?
they have empty seats at xmas though. not at noon on a weekday in augest between latvia/germany or whoever is on the bottom end of the poolsCANADIANS will need to remember this when they complain about empty seats at the worlds and other events.
Or is it a cabin?I’m at a cottage in PEI right now.
So the IIHF is alone, is it?And yes, it is indeed unfortunate that the IIHF somehow made the rash decision to ban a team of teenage Russian hockey players from participating in their tournament while other Russian athletes have been free to compete in events around the world without any ridiculous and laughably unnecessary ban in effect.
Are you there?Even if it’s the middle of the summer there’s absolutely no excuse for having 30 fans in the stands for the WJC. Embarrassing
Like the World Cup of soccer? And yes, it is indeed unfortunate that the IIHF somehow made the rash decision to ban a team of teenage Russian hockey players from participating in their tournament while other Russian athletes have been free to compete in events around the world without any ridiculous and laughably unnecessary ban in effect.
As long as your countrys leaders uses sports for political purposes, it is quite understandable that your getting shut out for the same. From a hockey standpoint I`d want to have Russia there, but from ethical reasons not. You’re not a hockey fan if you really believe this garbage. Honestly, anyone who supports to bar athletes from competition because of political games around the world is an idiot
Actually, very select few sports still allow Russians to compete. From the top of my head, I actually only know about tennis. And even then you could argue (as ATP does) that it's only so because it is indeed an individual sport where no one plays under a certain flag per se.And yes, it is indeed unfortunate that the IIHF somehow made the rash decision to ban a team of teenage Russian hockey players from participating in their tournament while other Russian athletes have been free to compete in events around the world without any ridiculous and laughably unnecessary ban in effect.
And in tennis they’re not competing for “Team Russia”, but themselves. Still should be banned however.Actually, very select few sports still allow Russians to compete. And even then you could argue (as ATP does) that it's only so because it is indeed a personal sport where no one plays under a certain flag per se.
Even federations historically waist-deep in the Russian pocket like FIFA or FIDE had enough common sense.
Ya, no one cares about the scandal IMO. I've been playing ball hockey for the last 4 months and the post game brews in the parking lot it hasn't come up once. There was literally no marketing for this tourney and barely anyone knows about it, that's about it.
It's a pretty good thing too, IMO. Shows that more and more people doesn't accept organizations and teams stupid/criminal activities, putting more pressure on other ones to be better orgs/companies......take a guess why there's been no marketing for the tournament
Also, there's more to hockey fandom then hockey bros and their opinions drinking brews after games. I have literally given examples in this thread of people I've spoken to who are not watching because of the sexual assault allegations.
