No fans

I saw yesterday curtained off the upper terraces, so the maximum is probably set well below that
I mean if they actually were selling tickets it wouldn't be curtained off

I meant nobody wanted to come see their friends/family play? 12 people is comical.
Plot twist. The 12 people are workers that have nothing to do.

those prices are insane if they dream of charging those here in december it’s going to be even worse lol

Hey, keep in mind they gotta top up that Gang Rape Hush Money Fund!

I think with every thing that is happening with hockey Canada and also the fact that is the middle of summer doesn't help, the world juniors has lost a lot of prestige in Canada with all the scandals and everything. Hockey Canada has a lot of work to do to regain the trust of the fans.

This is less an indictment of Hockey Canada or Canadian fans and more simple proof that international hockey doesn't have widespread, universal appeal.
personally, I don't get the people complaining about this tourament in August to me more hockey =good. Especially since this is just a one off thing because the tournament was postponed in December.

I do get why the arena is empty though. Its not the best time for a tournament attendance wise.

yeah but i’ll have to work so i’ll be buying individual or secondary market we’ll see what they think go for but i’m cynical enough to see them charging a ton

Like why should I spend $800 taking my family of 4 to round robin games between teams like Austria and Germany when my kids have no investment in them? By comparison, I can spend $80 to take them to an Oil Kings game where the quality of players are arguably better and you get to cheer on your local team.

Now factor in that its not hockey season. It's beautiful out and I can take the kiddos to the lake for practically nothing. Hockey Canada has their blinders on and expects fans to put everything aside while paying a premium. Edmonton was spoiled with long seasons from the Oil Kings and Oilers and aren't interested in paying through the nose to see some watered down tournament.

Embarassing.

Prices are insane, but even if they weren't no one wants to sit inside and watch hockey right now. I doubt they'll sell out the gold medal game even if Canada is in it. Summer in Edmonton is beautiful, and there's so many other things to do that only come around once a year. Hockey starts up in a couple months, no one cares about it right now.

Seems like Hockey Canada was very out of touch with this the market for the tournment. Its summer and many star players arent playing. You cant price the tournment the same as if this was a normal December time tournment. Tickets should have been made much cheaper with an aim at attracting kids/teens who are out of school/at summer camp.

So, okay, August, summer holidays, stupid ticket prices and simply quite wrong time for a hockey tournament. But still, that's like completely empty there - in Canada. I would totally understand half or even largely empty stands like maybe three, four thousand fans for Finland-Czech Republic etc. But basically empty? Something doesn't compute - is it the scandal then?

Here's the 2018 Hlinka-Gretzky: same time, same venue

Well, the Hlinka tournament is barely ever mentioned in Finland - I didn't even know that we seem to participate pretty frequently. But this is the World Junior Hockey Championship, and in Canada, the country that is supposed to be absolutely crazy about it. Even to the degree of bothering to watch it in August also, one would have thought.

That doesn't make it any better.....it's still Hockey Canada using taxpayer money and putting it towards buying someone's silence. :help:
Most, by far, of the money went to victims of Graham James, which was by no means a secret. I guess it's more fun to make up your own story though, or cry for the poor Russians.

The true extent of what he did was hidden for a while, actually.

It's not really "making up your own story" when Hockey Canada has already admitted to doing it. :help:

Also, no one's "crying" for any Russians, but those players should obviously be in this tournament. It's ****ing ridiculous to exclude them.
