I don't want ot be a downer but those Tears of the Kingdom graphics look..... poor.
I thought it looked good for a Switch game, but the system is really starting to show its age. Certain styles obviously look better such as Mario Open World, Luigi's Mansion, and Kirby given the consoles limitation.

I am curious to see what Nintendo does going forward. Logically, since a major reason for the Switch being created was to streamline all game development instead of focusing on a home console and their handhelds. Logically, if that is why Nintendo went this route, it would be nuts to go pure home console again when they really don't have a viable competitor on handhelds. But, Nintendo also tends to do what they want. So, who knows what they will do.

As someone who never played the original game on GameCube. Is Metroid Prime still similar game as the 2D ones or its more of your typical FPS?

Neither. It's really not a shooting game at all, despite the weapon of the main character being a gun. It's kind of It's own category but somewhat similar to 3D Zelda games with backtracking and progression like classic Metroid games.

Sony sells all their games for $70 and Metroid Prime is better than any game to ever release on Playstation, I'm not sure what the issue is.
Boy that's a stretch. I mean, it's subjective but I don't know how anyone can make that claim when The Last of Us, Uncharted, the new God of War, Spiderman, Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Kingdom Hearts 2 exist.

GTA III launched only on PS2 to start. Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 on PS1. Cool if people love Metroid Prime this much, but is it ever a bold take.

If Nintendo is planning on going to $70 USD a game, they probably should have waited until next-gen to justify it, and as I said earlier, Nintendo first party games almost never go on sale, which isn't the case for any other publisher which makes the price rising feel particularly felt.

I can agree that it's a tall order, but personally, I found Last of Us, Uncharted, God of War 2018 (though I didn't get super far in this one yet), and Spiderman all pretty underwhelming and easy to imagine stuff better than. Bloodborne's the only exception I actively agree with-- I think that one's straight up better than Metroid Prime (the other ones, I either haven't played or am not confident judging).

The tall order part is the main point. I just gave numerous examples where, depending on varying mileage of the gamer, there's certainly better Playstation titles than Metroid Prime. The Last of Us in particular is widely hailed as one of the greatest games of all time.

Bloodborne is the best of those and Horizon and GOW are decent but nothing special, but I'd consider them all well below Metroid Prime. The PS exclusives for the past 15 years have eschewed focusing on engaging game design in favor of high production value storytelling and graphics. I've played almost all of them and wouldn't consider any to be an all-time great.

On a subjective level, it's reasonable to find plenty of titles better than Metroid Prime, sure (I do), but in the same vein, while a tall order, thinking that there aren't isn't entirely unfathomable/nonsensical to me either (I wouldn't go as far as "there's CERTAINLY better Playstation titles"), considering that Prime is considered one of the greatest games of all time by plenty as well.

I actually can't tell if he means Playstation exclusives specifically, but if he does, I could probably go that far as well outside of Bloodborne. Can't think of much else that competes, for me. Shadow of the Colossus is special, but super flawed and shoddy in a lot of ways, too (also not totally exclusive anymore, right?). Beyond that, I dunno.

If he means non-exclusives as well, I can think of tons, though.

Are we talking about the same people that said GTA 4 was the best game ever? I personally don't understand how one could consider Last of Us one of the best games of all time, but I'm all ears.

I mean, I'll be honest I threw that in there because of the acclaim others assign it and I can't argue in its favor personally. I played the rest but I don't think this is an argument with a possible winner. You've made it clear that you think it's better. I played the shit out of MP1 was a kid and still think the games I mentioned (sans last of us which I didn't play) are better. Comes down to what we individually value or devalue in these games. Don't think further bickering will shift any opinions.

The level of detail in the world, and story in Last of Us is absolutely insane. The gamplay is good but not something that re-defines 3rd person shooters.

Sony and Nintendo both do certain things great. I've loved playing both those companies' games. Nintendo does certain things better than Sony (they are better at fun gameplay loops, platformers, and replayability). Sony is better at huge detailed worlds, and great stories (complimented with good to great gameplay). Nintendo is more innovative and fun, Sony is more massive and cinematic. Both have their places in the game industry, and they may appeal to different people, and some people like myself may like both approaches.

Some people want to just get straight to the gameplay loop, while others enjoy a story that is well-made and links the game together.

So according to leakers, Metroid Prime 4 was originally being handled by Bamco with Retro just helping out.

Nintendo didn't think the current crew at Retro could do another good Prime game, but apparently Nintendo was so impressed with the Prime 1 remaster that they basically rebooted the project and handed it to Retro fully.

I'm curious how readily available Metroid Prime Remastered is going to be as a physical copy. I'm hoping I can buy it at my local independent store (try to throw them as much business as I can when possible), and not have to go directly to Nintendo's site or Amazon.

I’ll be buying the Metroid prime remaster. Really enjoyed playing it on the GameCube.

Speaking of remastered games has anyone played Skyrim on the switch? Wondering how it runs compared to the PlayStation? Is it still enjoyable on a handheld?

The thing I find mediocre/standard about The Last of Us is the story, every bit as much as the gameplay, personally (I think they're at the same level-- just serviceable/what people want/expect, but not all that special). Other than perhaps a nice conceptual twist at the end, it doesn't have writing or plot development or character development that's much better or more interesting than an episode of Walking Dead (generally considered mediocre television), IMO.

The standard of quality when it comes to things like environmental design, presentation, modeling, marketability, and voice acting is pretty undeniably top notch, though.

So I agree with the subjectivity of it all, but I would say "Some people want to just get straight to the gameplay loop, while others enjoy a cinematic experience/crowd-pleasing ride/immersive world with high production values" instead.

I don't think it's a remastered version think it's just a direct port of the original. I've only ever played skyrim on switch but I got through the main game and one line of DLC so, yeah, it's enjoyable. To the extent that you don't care that Skyrim is a bit dated in its gameplay at this point.

Going on vacation and going to have a solid amount of travel time. What are some favourite games that are good for portability and jumping in and out of gameplay.

Thinking i will be playing Limbo & Inside at somepoint but need some further recommendations.

Physical copies Metroid Prime remastered are pretty scarce, no Best Buys or Gamestop's have any right now, hopefully this isn't one of Nintendo's intentional scarcity schemes
