Happy they are finally adding Birdo. I feel like there was a missed opportunity over the past expansions to add more characters.
Bought the booster pass in saturday. Haven't finished all new cups yet but the ones I played were a lot of fun. The city tracks are pure chaos, though.Jumped into the Mario Kart update. Great to see Birdo back, interesting that there are 5 more question marks on the character selection screen. More new characters coming to the game I imagine.
Got a little better at the motion controls and I can see what the fuss was about. The gear system is implemented, imo a little poorly and demands way too much investment of time and grinding to optimize abilities but for a totally different take on the competitive shooter, it's a well polished and conceived game. Even though I missed the first two iterations.I finally caved and got myself Splatoon after ignoring it for ages. Holy shit is this ever not a game for little kids. Not talking about content being too explicit or anything, that part is fine. But the PVP is not beginner friendly at all. The game basically has to be played with motion controls and part of the incentive to keep playing is grinding out favorable abilities that improve your abilities, weapon damage, etc. Well the matchmaking doesn't scale by level, so I'm out there getting absolutely smacked just about every game by experienced players with grinded out optimal builds and advanced weapons so the gameplay loop for me is splat as much as I can and hope I can get away from opposing players before they annihilate me in under two seconds.
Couldn't imagine letting my 5 year old nephew try this. Kid started bawling after losing a race to his mom in Mario Kart. Think he might break my Switch if I let him go a few rounds.
Is it even still playable? Like is the online service still there?Totally biased opinion but I still think the first splatoon was the best one. I still think it was better balanced and the online play was better.
edit: that said, still my favorite game on nintendo.
I'll have to fix my gamepad and give it a shot at some point. Is it even still playable? Like is the online service still there?
Can anyone recommend some switch games for a 5-6 year old?
Mario Kart, Smash Bros and Kirby. My 6 year old also enjoys exploring in breath of the wild. He's almost 7 though. Can anyone recommend some switch games for a 5-6 year old?
My 5 year old loves playing LEGO Jurassic World in coop with me. He also likes Mario Kart and with all the assists on, he's good enough to win a race here and there (50cc).Can anyone recommend some switch games for a 5-6 year old?

Nintendo's are pretty much masters at this and have been for like 35 years. I think I got a Genesis at 5/6 or so, so I would think most entry level 2D platformers might be fun and I was playing Super Mario a ton as it seemed everyone played either a Genesis or SNES. I donno if this is a great idea or not, as I don't have kids as a reference point, but, I wouldn't be shocked if in the NES/SNES Switch Online package you found some SNES games they enjoy.Mario Kart is always a good bet for kids. The game is catered both towards young ones and seasoned vets.

I believe if you go into settings you can set up so parental controls. I have no idea what these controls actually do as I’ve never gone into that tab but I know most systems have access to pin/password protected games and accounts. I’d assume Switch is the same.I’m new to the switch and have a question about accounts. My kids have been playing on the switch with their generic accounts with no access to online gaming. I have been wanting to make myself an account that does have online capability, but I don’t want them to be able to use it especially if I’m not able to monitor them.
Is there a way to create an account for myself that has access to Nintendo Switch Online without my kids being able to access it? For example with a password or pin to log into my account.
