Whats the big hoop over Mysak? Put up very average numbers in the OHL for a NHL draft pick. What else does he bring?

Edit - Habs voted him their 19TH best prospect. And we are trading what we voted as our #1 prospect just this past Jan for him. No thanks! Clearly most Hab fans don't even see him as anything special.

That's us basically trading Karl Henriksson for Kaiden Guhle.
When the main boards are all trying to trade a guy on their team for your guy, you know it's bad value.

Again Nils would have to beat out Schneider to have a spot on the Rangers and that at the moment doesn't look good. Someone remarked to me that in this case 'nothing really went wrong between the Rangers and Nils....if anything we are in this situation with him cause so many other things went right'......we had overloaded on this position and it goes back actually further than Nils. A couple years ago we had all of Fox, Trouba, DeAngelo with Nils as a top prospect and the Rangers still drafted Schneider--actually moved up to draft him. Schneider is in fact a higher pick 19 in arguably a better draft than Nils 28. But why draft another RD?.....on YouTube we get an idea of why....video of JD looking across the table at Rangers scout Chris Morehouse and asking him if Schneider's the kind of D that you win Cups with? and Morehouse nodding in agreement. The reason is the Rangers loved this player. That doesn't mean they didn't like Nils too or still do but it has put Nils in kind of predicament of where he fits in and right now it's in Hartford and I think both Nils and his agent don't want him in Hartford.....they want him in the NHL.
Well yeah... I mean that's what drafting is, or SHOULD be about.

If a guy fills a need but isn't NEARLY as talented as another guy, you still draft the super talented guy. End of story. That's why we have a billion wingers.

Also why we should've won a cup(s) with Tarasenko but I digress lol

C'mon if you read the article, even just its title,
you know your argument is just as shaky as the Habs' posters
that Mysak wasnt the 19th prospect.
But 19th "under 25"
a list that would include guys like Suzuki, Dach. Caufield, Harris, and more

On NYR, such a list would not only include the 'prospects', but also Fox, Chytil, Lindgren, Miller. Laf, Kakko, etc

Mysak, maybe with a sweetener, might be part of a fair outcome for this situation

Nils for Hutson.

Not so much because I want Hutson (lots of question marks there) but because I want to see the hilarious about face that the Habs fanbase would do after pumping his tires all summer.

What about:

Mysak + Tuch for Lundkvist + Gauthier
I also like Struble, Dobes, if Gorts wants other guys he had targeted and acquired like Henriksson, Hajek
( i am in the camp that expects Hajek to be a capable NHL depth D.
Turk, Murphy shoulda used him more than they did Nemeth, Tinordi. He has size and some skill and instincts, needs some consistent reps and coaching. Still young. Maybe not w NYR, w Jones and others (Nils? Robertson) also on verge of NHL, and a vet LD PTO not far-fetched)

My issue with any talk of a potential return for Nils Lundkvist is that Alex Romanov was just traded for a 13th overall pick. The differences are really that Romanov has played 133 NHL Games with a mere 19 points to show for it. Only 15 more points than Lundkvist. And imo Lundkvist is the one with more upside potential when all is said and done. Yes the big variable here is that we have the guy that has requested a trade, but I would just loan this kid to Sweden, let him tear it up there, unless you get the value you are looking for. And you toll his contract and continue to loan him until he is willing to come back and compete for a spot. We aren’t a charity, we are not here to help out Jeff Gorton and MTL.

Jeff Gorton had the leverage in the Adam Fox trade talks and he is still traded two 2nd round picks for Fox. Other teams knew Fox wanted to be a Ranger. He would play out his senior year and become a free agent. I remember Carolina wanted the Winnipeg first round pick acquired in the Hayes trade. Gorton wouldn't deal that pick but he traded two 2nd round picks in 2019 and 2020 to Carolina for Fox.

The Habs 2nd round pick in 2023 should be a high pick. The Rangers will be in the rental market at the trading deadline. Will the Rangers trade their first round pick? The Rangers have their 2nd in 2023.

I would use the Adam Fox template.

Drury wants a young player with the same pedigree as Lundkvist. He would probably take a first round pick. Carolina wanted a first round pick for Fox. Gorton sent Carolina two second round picks with the 2nd in 2019 being the 37th pick in the draft.

Montreal doesn't have their 2nd in 2024. It was traded to Arizona in the Dvorak deal. Montreal has the Avs 2nd in 2024 from the Lehkonen trade. Montreal has their 2nd in 2025.

Called 1-800-GOT-JUNK to pick up Nils. They said they should arrive anytime between now and 5 pm.

Dude, come on, he's like the only guy they drafted in 2022 that I actually like. Why you tryin' to take that away from us?

Most players miss some games
I can see trouba, fox and schneider missing a stretch of games and Nils filling in quite well.
With no Nils who is left to fill in?
Unless we are getting a RD back we dont have the depth at RD to trade him
Unlike Kravy last year Nils needs to realize he's an injury away from playing big minutes.
Him and his agent see no future for him here and he wants a top 4 spot. I don't blame him for wanting out.

It wasn't, but it came up in conversation with one of the Wolf Pack players.
A conversation you had or heard about?

How many games did Jones refuse to play?

Seider’s a stud. I can see that guy someday winning a Norris (or2). Hronek’s a really good all situation RD and he’s really good too. Nils might make their team but the opportunity to play more towards his strengths doesn’t seem all that hot there to me.
Seider is already great.

The downside to drafting BPA is that you end up with way to many players without a spot on the big club. And trading from the surplus is fine, but clearly easier said than done. The Gorton (and later Davidson) braintrust didnt draft a center with a premium pick post-Letter, instead loading up on righty defenseman and wingers. Head scratcher.
I'm a big fan of BPA unless it's not deemed a decided difference between 2 players, else position comes into play.

What about:

Mysak + Tuch for Lundkvist + Gauthier
Whenever a fan suggests a trade, there will be a piece of crap player headed out of town.

All the issues we've had with Lias and Vitali neither was effectively blocked from making the team in pre-season. There's always been a spot for them to earn. In Nils case it looks to me anyway that he's effectively blocked and I don't believe with the issues he had defending on the right side last year that switching him to his weaker left side would work at all. Barring injury I see a quality prospect going into his second pro year in North America with very little outcome other than being sent to Hartford.....and spending most if not all of 22-23 and potentially 23-24 with the Wolfpack (if the Rangers don't move him).

It's more understandable then that he would ask for a trade. I do think he eventually becomes a very good NHL player......or at least if he sticks with it over here.

I don't mind the value, but the Habs really don't need any extra 'right now' forwards.

I really like Mysak. Some of you might not know him very well, but this guy is a winner even tho he might only end up a third line player in the NHL. Similar to Lehkonen but at center. He's definitely not our 19th best prospect, more around 6-10th in a very deep pool. Rangers likely already have their top guys for years to come, have faith in Laf and Kakko. So he'd be a lot more useful then Lundkvist for you guys IMO.

To me, I see this as a 3rd line center 200f player + PK VS a top 4 PP specialist.

I could see a deal around Struble as well. Guy is a tank, but the Habs have so many LHD prospects including Guhle, Harris, Xhekaj, Norlinder, Hutson, Engstrom and Struble. He might not see his place on the team and the team might feel the same way. Possibly a small add.

bad advice from his greedy agent
Greedy?

An agent's job is to make his player make as much money as possible. That's an absolute given.

A player can always dump an agent if he feels the agent isn't acting in his best interest.

Everyone in sports and business is greedy to at least some degree.

Mysak is being propped up by a strong showing at the WJC which was a weird tournament to begin with.

Like in the long run, Mysak himself would be a win for the Rangers but based off of track record? Nils should return more.

Roy or bust.

bc its fun.

SJS beat writer suggesting Nils for Thomas Bordeleau could make sense. Small, skilled Center who played a couple years at Michigan and scored at a PPG pace. Could make sense and the Drury - Grier connection is there for sure.

Why would freak Sharks make that trade? I'd take that and run
