Sandstrom was one of my first favorite players. Was my first jersey. Even taped my stick like him. He was a blast to watch as a Ranger. Had a new years eve hat trick against the islanders with the third goal happening in OT. He was traded along with Granato to bring in Bernie Nicholls, then a few years later, Nicholls turned into Messier, so can't complain but I was really bummed when they traded Sandstrom.
Yeah it worked out for us. Tomas was my favorite player at that time as well. Tomas scored at a high rate after the trade. He played with Leetch, Gretzky, Mario, and won a cup with Yzermen. One of the reasons LA traded him was they feared Tomas would go back to Sweden. It was only after his career Tomas admitted he never planned to leave the NHL for Sweden. He said it was a negotiation ploy.

Do remember Tomas Sandstrom? He was a really cool player. From early on in his career he said he might give up hockey and go back to Sweden. I felt that played a role in why he was traded a few times. I remember Espo mentioning it very early in his career. I always found it odd that Tomas had such a long career after making that going back to Sweden statement multiple times. Turns out Tomas only used the threat of Sweden as a contract negotiation. I wish he never made it and stayed a Ranger.

If one of these kids can become a Sandstrom, that will be great. Good shot, clitch scorer, plays well w good players (Rogers, Poddubny), tough and physical along the walls. Best 28 of my NYR fandom(since mid''60s), no disrespect to '94Larmer.

Remember when he attacked Dave Brown’s stick with his head?

You have a good memory. I would have assumed Rogers was a couple of years before Tomas.

They say Tomas had an incredible pain tolerance. I guess that helps when he was getting in to a lot of the messy stuff with other teams.

Remember that crosscheck on Tomas by Dave Brown? Jee zusss

Oh damn. Posted about that above already haha
I'm not a fan of how Kravtsov handled his situation, either. But, at least he came back and is willing to compete for a spot. He's going to be in camp. Lundkvist apparently won't even report to camp.

Let's see what happens. Could be Claude just doing his thing.

I bet Nils will be at camp.

I would not move him unless we get fair value back. I would encourage him to come to camp and win a job. Age happens, injuries happen, salary issues happen. If he plays well he could be in that top 4 this year or next.
I think if he ends up in the top 4, the team's in trouble.

Too early for me to say yay or nay on him. He was highly rated before coming over. May take a year to adjust.
If Nils is in the top 4, one of Fox, Lindgren, Trouba, and Miller isn't.

Would make no sense to play him with Fox and no way the team is better off with Nils instead of either Miller or Trouba.

So lets trade Brooks to Winnipeg and keep Nils!

I'd like to send Brooks to Phily just for the soundbytes.

Honestly, with the way the puck comes off his stick the top left corner is all his if he switched sides.

Would give Foxy a hell of a one-timer weapon to set up like Leetch-Zubov.

You're talking PP and that's totally different.

That may all be true but we do not know what growth Nils will have this season nor next plus we do not know what injuries, trades, or contract situations we may have. Unless we get fair value there is no need to move him. Let him show us what he has in camp. Let him earn a job like everyone else should.

Most players miss some games
I can see trouba, fox and schneider missing a stretch of games and Nils filling in quite well.
With no Nils who is left to fill in?
Unless we are getting a RD back we dont have the depth at RD to trade him
Unlike Kravy last year Nils needs to realize he's an injury away from playing big minutes.

Sandstrom was my first favorite Ranger, right before Richter.

He was a stud. He had some really good years on the Rangers. He scored 40 playing with Poddubny, and then was basically a PPG player Leetch's first full year.

He started with Brooks, somehow survived the three years of Esposito insanity while almost being traded like every other week (including for Gretzky) and then was finally traded in early 1990 by Smith with Granato for Nicholls because the Rangers needed center ice help (Carey Wilson was injured most of that year).

He wasn't quite a superstar, but in those days when the Rangers were more of a blue collar team and run somewhat like a middle market team, he was the closest thing they had to one.

I'm happy he won a Cup at the end of his career as a role player for Detroit. I wish he'd do more for the Rangers alumni. The last time he was over was the 90th Anniversary Home Opener 2016-17 when they brought back guys like Mike Rogers and Martin St. Louis. They had a video following him and Kasparitus around before they came out on the ice, reminiscing about their days is Pittsburgh together.

Drury is likely going to sit on all offers. Nils isn't going to age pass his prime in the next 3 weeks. Young cost controlled good ceiling RHD don't come around often. You'd want them again and again. Rebuilding teams like Montreal and Buffalo would be be beckoning. Competitive teams like Dallas and Vancouver have a need for cheap controlled RHD as well. Sit on it until camp at the very least and drive the price as high as you can. As much as the trade request sucks, I think this one will be much more bountiful with the offers unlike VK who was a winger, in Russia, commitment concerns etc.
