He had a chronic back injury from youth- hard to work out when you have that. But it was a different time. Their offeason was THEIR time, they didn't work out like maniacs year-round like today. But few of them did, so the playing field was the same as today in that regard.
Whatever happened to McDavid sucks but overall he’s been lucky with injuries in his career so the what ifs are silly. The only major injury where’s he missed significant was during his rookie year. Hopefully he can continue to only miss 5 games max per year for the rest of his prime.

I really truly hope Kucherov doesnt win it. The NHL needs a certain breed to be leaders (crosbies, Greztkies, Marios etc) Not a douche bag troll as the face of the league.

The only people who like Kuch are TB fans. Most other fan bases think he is an idiot. Because he is.
What breed? Lemieux, the biggest diva and whiner in league history? Crosby, who was Mr.Slewfoot and Captain Diving early in his career? Maybe Toews, who had a sexual assault under his nose and 'was just focused on hockey'? Or Messier, who has a leadership award named after him, one of the dirtiest players ever?

Yeah, give me Kucherov over this breed of leaders every day. Just admit you're a hater.

Interesting list there.

Good thing there is another one protected by the rules of this forum, eh Comrade?

And actually working out during his sabbatical in '94-'95 helped him to the point that his back wasn't completely out of whack. As is quoted in the article I linked. When he retired he was arguably the healthiest he'd ever been.

Lots of players could have been much better than they were had they had the work ethic to apply themselves fully... Maybe even Kucherov.
Can you please cite your source that Kuch doesn't have the work ethic to apply himself to GAMES that actually count in the standings?

Here, I'll help you out...

He actually has a major injury one year but it happebed during the end of the reg season and the Oilers were garbage and wasnt making the playoffs.

Even though Mackinnon would win the Art ross by default (more goals), it would be cool if all 3 were tied in points by the end of the season.

I'm guessing that'd be a first in all of professional sports?

Gonna be weird if McDavid and Mack are tied going into the last game. Avs v Oilers is game 82 for both teams.
It's a back to back at the end of a very busy end to the regular season for Oilers. I have a feeling McDavid may rest the game regardless of the Art Ross situation. Would send a message to the group that it's all about the playoffs.

This year it feels like the Hart + Lindsay won't go to the same person. All three of them are having phenomenal seasons so my gut tells me it won't be an awards sweep for anyone.
Mack has already won the Hart. Nothing McDavid could do to win it. The voters will realize they f***ed up the Hall year. Ross is the only true “race”

In the NHL's 100+ year history it has never happened and from what I can tell, there has only been 3 times where there has been a 2 person tie in the scoring lead (only two times if we only consider full seasons):

- 1961-62 - Hull and Bathgate tied with 84pts (Hull had 50 goals to Bathgate's 28)
- 1979-80 - Gretzky's rookie year.....probably the closest race, Gretzky and Dionne both had 137pts, Dionne with 53 goals to Gretzky's 51.
- 1994-95 - 48 game shortened season - Jagr and Lindros had 70pts, Jagr with 32 goals to Lindros' 29.

If Mack plays that game I bet McDavid will too. Pretty decent chance the Oilers will still be playing for first in the division too, in which case I guarantee McDavid will play.

Flames made sure Draisaitl didn't win a rocket his final game in 2019

For a long time, the Lindsay/Pearson was voted on with 1-2 weeks left in the season. That could explain several instances where the Hart winner had an incredible run over the final (approx) 5 games - Naslund over Forsberg in 2003, Jagr over Thornton in 2006, Sedin over Perry in 2011, etc. I'm not sure if the timing difference is still the case.

Guys who represent the game well. Not go to an allstar game and act like a little cry baby and disappoint little kids because "im too cool for hockey".

I see you are from Russia. I dont think there is a need to be so aggressive and upset because i dont like a cry baby Russian hockey player.

I think its obvious I am a hater. It's pretty clear in my post.

I didnt mention Toews, so not sure why you did.

Kind of cool that the top 4 is 2 Russians and 2 Canucks. 1980's!

I think you are conflating Toews with Management in a situation he knew pretty much nothing about. That stuff was on the management who knew details and swept it under the rug. Not the players who didn't know much of anything.

Not 1980s NHL though...back then it would have been 3-4 Canadians with Stastny, Kurri or Nilsson thrown in occasionally. Russians didn't exist in the NHL in the 80s, or at least before 1989 I think...other than that one guy that played 3 games. I know what you mean though....I remember the Canada Cups of the 1980s....definitely Canada vs. Russia was the matchup.

Yeah, this is just someone looking for likes on a forum (the guy you are quoting, not you). You can tell that whatever opinion he has isn't steeped in reality and he/she has little life experience outside of watching feel good movies.

Another funny is that it is 2 Canadian C's (one of their specialities) and 2 Russian W's (one of their specialities). I would've expected, in 2024, more Americans, Finns and Swedes to be honest.

He absolutely will not be sitting. This is the same guy who hunts down empty net points with every morsel in his bones when his team is up by 3 goals in the first game of the season.

I think if the points race ends up close it’ll be MacK regardless, even if he ends up 3rd, but if McDavid blows past both by 10 points or more and the Oilers overtake the Canucks in the Pacific, it’d be hard to justify MacKinnon at that point.

It's amazing the oilers are as high as they are considering by game 20 they looked to be cooked due to goaltending
