Donald Brashear was a very valuable player for the Flyers, and that's the type they have with Deslauriers. The outrage over this signing is absurd.

Yeah? Is it a perfect comparison? Of course not. Brashear at his peak was the better player. But Deslauriers is plenty capable of b/w 10-20 points while being one of the best fighters in the league, and also a physical presence separate from his fighting.

Who cares about fighting anymore? The NHL and its players have moved away from fighting. Deslauriers sucks, period. He brings nothing positive to this team.

They are going to have a number of young kids in the lineup, and like it or not there are some very intimidating physical players in the Metro. Reeves. Wilson. Martin. You want these kids to have the confidence that they've got one of the toughest guys in the league having their backs and maybe keeping opponents from trying to intimidate them. And Deslauriers is not as bad of a player as some posters are making him out to be.

20 points?! He’s going to have a 33% bump from his career high (15 points) that he set 8 years ago on THIS team?!

Let him fight and give other teams power plays. That’s not where this game is at in the year 2022.

What kids? Other teams laughing their asses off when they see ND and Zac on the ice.

Recently he had 14 pts in 58 games. 13 pts in 59 games. 10 pts in 49 games. And 13 pts in 81 games.

I said he's capable of 10-20. If you want to nitpick that as saying he'll get 20, go nuts. You understand my point.

Frost. Tippett. Cates. York.

How many kids are playing each night with a 4th line of Deslauriers-Brown-MacEwen?
I'm not at all convinced that Brown and MacEwen are in the opening day lineup.

I love a good hypothetical on a slow work day. How much ice time would you have to give Deslauriers to get 20 Points out of him? We'll have to assume he plays 82 Games because I would assume it was meant in that spirit. And really, if he misses time, the team is sunk anyway.

Over the last 3 seasons, he's scored at a convenient ~1 Point/60 at 5v5. Some quick head math says that means that at his recent rate of scoring, he would need ~1200 Minutes to hit 20 Points. If we assume he plays in all 82 Games to be as charitable as possible toward the idea, that would means he needs to play roughly 14.63 5v5 MPG to hit 20.

Here are the Flyers Forwards who played 14.63 or more 5v5 Minutes in '21-22:

I know last year was a mess, so here are the Flyers Forwards who played 14.63 or more 5v5 Minutes in '20-'21:

Here is '19-'20:

What about '18-19: Giroux (We got one!)

'17-18: Giroux, Couturier, Voracek

'16-17:

'15-16:

'14-15: Giroux

I got bored at this point.

That's also assuming he continues shooting over 8% at 5v5. I wouldn't want to bet on that, but I'll leave that up to all of you fine people.

Brown has 4th line center on lock, his spot is much more stable than MacEwen who doesn’t play center at all. Brown will play any forward spot.

4C could easily be Laczynski or even Laughton depending on how camp goes.

Depends also on Farabee's time line.
Laughton will probably start at 1/2LW until Farabee returns, then 4C.

Laczysnki will get a shot to beat out Brown.
Desnoyers make get a look at 4C in the spring.

I don't think Brown is a lock at all, but he faces less competition than MacEwen, who has to beat out Allison, Hodgson and Sandin, and then hold off Foerster and Wisdom this spring.

I pretty much agree with all of this.

Laughton almost certainly starts bumped up due to Farabee's injury.

But Laczynski and, yes, Desnoyers, are going to battle for 4th line positions. And so will Allison and Hodgson.

And Foerster and Wisdom could easily force themselves into the lineup at some point this season.

Brown and MacEwen could easily be waived before the season.

Laughton is not going to be demoted from top 6 to the 4th line, especially not by Torts. Last season Laughton got more ES TOI/GP than every forward except Coots, G, TK and Hayes.

At least try and make your fan fiction vaguely realistic.

If they want Laughton at center then Frost is in the AHL
He won't get thru waivers at $800K.

I dont see those 4 as kids. None will be on the ice with ND to boot.

Laughton may very well be the 4C, it's just that he won't only be the 4C, he'll be the 2LW at times, 1st pair on the PK and PP2.
He played 15:25 two years ago and a little over 16 minutes last year due to injuries at center.
So if he plays 15 minutes, 10 as 4C, 2-3 minutes of shift on other lines (1-2 per period), 2 minutes on the PK, 1 minute on the PP.

Deslauriers will have to earn anything more than 8 minutes a night, Brown will have to earn a roster spot, period, though he's a good bet for the 13th forward, more flexible than MacEwen.

Why they gave MacEwen a QO is weird, superfulous after you sign deslauriers, and should be able to sign him to a minimum wage or two way deal. If Allison is healthy, he's going to be the 4RW or push Tippett down to 4RW.
