This is what happens when you have a competent shooter on with Matthews. They respect Matthews give the shot to another shooter who can shoot and GOAL

The one thing that comes to mind is that historically he usually starts his seasons off playing the worst hockey of the year.

An annoying habit to say the least especially from a player like him. But ideally he'll shake it off sooner rather than later

Realistically him and Matthews will get out of it soon, they're too good not to

But wow are they frustrating to watch when they play like this

Also Samsonov has been as steady as we could have hoped for so far.

Matthews and particularly Marner have been putrid

I do agree. Everything Tavares does is slow, double-clutching, and just a split second behind where it should be. At this level I imagine it's very hard to play with. He's gotta clean it up. It looks hard for him.

Marner doesn't have a heavy shot with zip on it like Robertson/Matthews. Those types requires a level of respect Marner's shot doesn't have

Speaking of Marner scoring, he needs to go back to what made him so good last year. He's overpassing a fair amount right now imo, he needs to shoot more and make plays for himself as well

We need to get Robertson more PP time as well. The big unit isn't working very well, split them up and balance the PP a little.

The problem with the PP is the same as it is with ES: Matthews and Marner. Neither have it right now and we are winning in spite of them.

Another bad game from both today.

All 3 PP goals on the top unit so far were from Tavares and Nylander, and they are the only ones who really look dangerous on our top unit right now too. They also do not get to touch the puck as often as Marner and Matthews. Really, for that matter, their line is often the one who looks most dangerous at ES too.

Yeah, I also find his work on the PP to be quite fumbly. Head down puck somewhere around him and slows everything down.
Anywho, good win but I'd like to see some different guys on the PP when it goes through a prolonged slump.

Robbie had 3 shifts away from Tavares. In those 3 shifts he had 3 opportunities and 2 goals.

I don't think people comprehend how much better Nylander and Robertson are without Tavares.

I guess it is a good thing we are still .600 with them playing like ass.

The unfortunate thing is that we easily should have been perfect. We lost to Montreal and Arizona, and their inability to be a factor offensively is a big part of that.

Thank goodness for Samsonov too. He is so calm and confident right now.

Samsanov looks super stable in net.

One things for sure though. They need toughness. Not subbing out skill. But tell me wtf ZAR or NAK add?

you gotta get sandin on the 1st PP though, his point shot actually makes things happen. rielly just doesnt offer any kind of threat there.

In the NHL a PP without a point shot is not going to work especially in playoffs. Need someone who can slap from the point and keep the opposition PK honest and not aways cheat towards Matthews to take away his shot

Robertson with the both the defensive takeaway and goal of the game on the same play winning the game! In his first game of the season. That’s why I love hockey.

Samsonov was solid, Matthews was mugged in the game but played through it came through with the winning assist.

They go on the road now for 5 games. They can get out of town and the spotlight for a while, hopefully come back on the right track again get all the cobwebs out.
