I don't think so. Way too many good forwards.

Huberdeau-McDavid-Mackinnon
Marchand-Crosby-Bergeron
Coutrier-Oreilly-Stone
Point-Barzal-Marner
Tavares

Honestly his play dictates that he should be there before Marner. He has less to work with, is outproducing him and isn’t a choker in crunch time. He’s also out producing Barzal by a fair margin too.

This is also contingent on him continuing his current play.

For Suzuki to make the team Canada over the more established guys, he's going to need to continue playing like this until the management decides the roster.

this is why I said to those that were worried about his start that Suzuki is the last guy we need to worry about. The dude is legit. I don't know how good he can be in terms of points, but he's going to be a treat to watch for years.

Now if we can just stop seeing posts about sending him to the AHL when he struggles, or gifting him a spot on Team Canada when he's on fire...we'll be OK.

And we know how much Canada loves name recognition over merit. Sending the likes of Patrick Marleau and Brendan Morrow to these types of tournaments. They’ll pick Barzal over Suzuki because of it even though the latter has double the points and is better defensively.

Suzuki knows what he's doing wrong when things aren't working and he goes ahead and fixes it. No excuses.

We finally get a guy capable of being a 1st line center but have no 2nd line center!

Pleks can you please come back at prime level please!

I wouldn't count him out at all. Team Canada may have a specific role for him and his BIG GAME reputation will not be overlooked.

I just thought this was kind of interesting, not drawing any major conclusions but there might be something there:

Suzuki with Caufield in lineup: 16 GP - 6 points

Suzuki without Caufield in lineup: 8 GP - 9 points

Yeah, I know it was discussed somewhere about splitting those two up because they both can’t develop on the same line. I got no idea what CC was expecting this year, but maybe he needs a sit down and scale back expectations. Let him just play and the goals will come.

Of course, I say this with the mindset he’ll be coached competently.

As for Suzuki, I feel for him. He’s got to be feeling a lot of pressure to try to carry the team. I’m sure he wants to take the reigns, but he doesn’t have the support from the team at this stage of his development.

But Caufield was on his line for around half those games. Caufield doesn't help, but it's not the only thing holding Suzuki back.

I certainly wouldn't claim he's the only thing holding him back, but it may be they're not both ready to play together.

By my eye test and xGF metrics Suzuki-Gallagher was working decently at least.

I think it makes sense as Gally helps to play in the right zone for Suzuki to have success.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but hasn't Suzuki-Caufield been together most of the games they've both been in the lineup?

Glad to see others have jumped on the Canada train, I pointed it out a couple weeks ago when he was bad and it was shot down immediately.

I do believe he has an outside shot at Canada. Some mock teams have guys like Cirelli on them and I do believe NS is the better pick.

Need to him be hot down the stretch, while we lose every game lol

Would you rather have Jack Hughes or Nick Suzuki? They now have similar contracts, that's why I'm asking. Suzuki is more of a 200 foot intelligent player but Hughes might have more untapped offensive upside.

Edit: I'll a thread on the main board in Polls, this is an interesting question.

At first, it seems like Bergevin fleeced the gk in that trade. But now, it doesn't seems to be the case. Suzuki is good, but I'm not sure he's 8 millions good, since he seems to be very inconsistent. But, he's still young and the team is a dumpster fire this season, so there's a good chance he bounce back

If the Habs rebuild, Suzuki will drown a little with his $8M AAV contract but lets hope we exit that rebuild in 3 years and not 5 years. I'm not worried about Suzuki but I do expect fans to put pressure on him to live up to his contract. Basically, the way that contract was set up is that he is underperforming in the 1st 4 years and overperforming in the last 4. Not exactly like that but when you go with 8 year terms for a 22/23 year old, that's usually the approach. Spend now to save later.

Where do you expect him to be on par with his $8M deal? When he has 60-80 pts/season?
