Player Discussion Nick Suzuki Part 11

I'd prefer Newhook as the pivot for RHP and Anderson, but, if Newhook works with Slafkovsky and Dach, don't touch it.

Tonight, it's clear Caufield will get 80 goals this year, but Newhook will get 160!

Where’s Suzuki to start the year?

We’ll need to wait for more games to be played but he looks kinda uninterested

Meanwhile the defense is invisible
Goalies can't save a puck
everyone except Newhook and Pearson has been invisible offensively but hey It's Suzuki double shifting's fault!

It’s a green team. There were expectations on the 2nd line but with Dach going down… we’re going to rely heavily on Suzuki CC.

The good news is that we’ll probably wind up with Celebrini or Eiserman at the end of the year.

I was expecting a better start from the Captain. He has to be hurt.
Also,
Two things- maybe it's time to split up Suzuki and Caufield and we need to give some ice time to young players like Ylonen. Ylonen has offensive upside, yet he is stuck on the 4th line. But hey, keep playing Gallagher!

Are people aware he is the first forward the opposing teams target when they are playing the Habs, on top of him having the same role basically against all the opposition? Since this is a lottery team to many, what can he do with his linemates? Shut him and CC down and there is not much scoring the Habs can do. They still haven't found the missing piece for that line as well.

I thought Dach might have been an uh-oh move a few games into last season too. I kept the hot take to myself because I am (mostly) rational and knew it was early and more time would be needed to assess.

Who do you put CC with though? I think he would’ve been great with Dach but…

I think you have to keep them together. I think they need to start giving some penalty killing assignments to somebody like Jake Evans. It can’t all be on Nick.

No one else can handle them except Evans and Dvo and Dvo is out. Bergeron always had Krejci to handle the offensive duties, he was never the guy in Boston offensively. They clearly wanted Dach to take the offensive zone starts this year but now that he's out we literally have no depth or anything else. They certainly don't want Slaf and Newhook on defensive zone starts. Nick should move back into that offensive role since he is our most creative player but no one can take his defensive duties. This team is as deep as a sippee cup. Monahan doesn't have the speed anymore to take defensive zone starts or penalty killing minutes. Newhook has never been a defensive guy and has barely played center at the NHL level. We have zero centers in Laval (though I'm sure that one poster will say Mesar can handle it).

Ironically Beck probably would have been our best option for a Dvo replacement. I think Armia may get called up at this point and get stapled to whatever line is in the defensive zone.

Or just do nothing and let's get caved in all year and draft Celebrini, draft lottery willing (it won't, we only got Slaf because the hockey Gods knew the draft was shit).

Calling up Armia probably makes sense. We’re going nowhere anyway. My biggest concern is that the development continues for Slaf, Guehle and other young core players. Unfortunately I don’t know if this is going to be the best environment for them.
