When a player doesn’t look anything like himself in even short bursts from preseason to game 6 of the reg. season it’s hardly uncommon to wonder if he’s dealing with something. My guess is a chronic hip issue.

He's definitely not skating great. I noticed NHL.com had him listed at 211 lbs this season that is up about five pound over last year. If it's not in his legs it could be part of the problem.

It hasn't been uncommon at all for suzuki to go through some extended stretches of invisibility throughout his career to date.

At this stage of his career, that's probably just something that will be part of his package.... Hot and cold.

Suzuki showed, like Price but to a lesser extent, that he was an absolute gamer.

There is no reason to even care about his play until its go time. Hes gonna turn it up.

I care more about Caufield whos been playing like a grinder most games instead of directing 10+ pucks at the net. Not sure what St Louis doing with him but yikes.

His tracking data this season. (NHL edge)

Top speed % slightly below last season’s (75th).
Burst over 20mph percentile same as last season (94th).

Agree on Suzuki... though i'm sure he's as pissed as anyone about his so-so/slow start to the season. Would be nice to see him take a step forward this season and be more consistent. Not a great start to that effect.

Re. CC/MSL's deployment...

i see a guy learning to play winning hockey...

i see a coach playing a sniper in the dying minutes of a 1 goal game while protecting the lead with the opposing goalie pulled...

i see the kind of things the best of the best do in chasing excellence.

No complaints there for me!

I see stupid deployment of an offensive dynamo.

Kucherov, Kane, Pastrnak and Ovechkin are all championship players that recently won or had massive success without ever "playing winning hockey".

The same could also be said by Suzuki too, by the way.

I get that, but he's also the captain that is making more than anyone else. It's a bad look to the rest of the team that "hey, you guys can only try when it matters otherwise it's okay to mail it in".

Great, just what you want from a so called #1C 🙄

Can't believe no one liked/laughed your post yet. I would if I could. I lol'ed.

I'm guessing both have been asked to improve their D game

He should be spared some or all of his PK responsibilities so that he can be more productive. I think calling him an offensive dynamo at this point is a stretch.

I just don't think his lackluster start is entirely the result of his deployment. He's not showing the confidence and creativity with the puck that we know he has. He also seems to be low on energy and sapped quite easily. Maybe his conditioning isn't where it needs to be as well.

I agree lessoning his PK duties is a good first step. He’s also gassed because his line spends way too much time puck chasing.

I was talking about Caufield

I never said he's a 1C.... At least not a top end one.... He is valuable though because I find him to be very noticeable when the stage gets bigger.

On a cup contender, he can be that driving force Kadri was for the avs a couple years.
