- overpaid
- skating issues
- doesn’t “drive” his line
- won’t be an NHL center

I’ve heard all this within the past year, from Habs fans, and none of it is true.
The Hot Takes on this kid, are nothing short of stupid, and yet entertaining.

The absolute most talented centre we have had in eons......when he was offered an 8 yr deal at 7.8M per some couldn't help themselves with their crazy insight. He is thriving as our Captain, and the pundits who thought it was too soon, can suck it!!!!

The best one yet. One of the worst contracts in the league.

Well he's been playing like he has for a lot longer than just 14 games.

The questioning of his contract extension was always bizarre to be honest, if there's a single player on the Habs who was worth every penny of that "risk", it was him.
I'll be honest -- I wasn't sure 7.875M would be good value, even I had every hope he would progress beyond where he was at under Julien/Ducharme/Bergevin.

It's entirely possible that, under the past regime, he would have plateaued as a 2nd line, 60-point C.

Now, while he still hasn't produced more than this, his production since MSL came on board gives evidence that Suzuki might become a regular PPG or better, two-way C and that's definitely 1st line material if not top-10 material as a pivot in this league.

It's refreshing to see, especially from such an upright citizen in Nick Suzuki.

Definitely looking like he'll live up to the contract, barring serious injury.

Good news for Hab fans, for Caufield, who is also tremendously exciting and productive, as well as for Dach who seems to have found an identity on his new line alongside Suzuki and Caufield!

But even if that were to be the case

That's still about the going rate for a 2nd line C these days, if not today, in the next 1-2 years.

Just call him Spooky Suzuki. Has a bit more class to it.
I suppose Iol

Whether the going rate for a 2nd line C becomes 7.875M or not in the upcoming few years when the cap starts rising again, I was talking about the Cap hit being good value for Suzuki. If he plateaus as a 60-point, 2nd line C, it won't be great value, even if it's okay, like it would be for Dubois at 7.5M, for example.

Suzuki and "The Nature of Scoring"!

As a kid I used to enjoy the stat page in La Presse (Wednesday? Sayurday?). Naslund’s top 10 scoring, Richer’s 50 goal race… skip like 15-20 years to Kovalev for one great top 11 year… Nothing since.

It’s a long, long time since I have seen Hab names in « best in league » lists (heck, even the law of average would have your team have a top 10 at something every 3 years with 32 teams wtf…).

Thank goodness for this guy; hoping the habs can surround him with more top talent.

Bro i would spend a good 10 minutes every morning while having breakfast as a kid watching the stats page in Le Soleil. Since the mid 90ies outside of Kovalev one year i don't think we ever had one guy breaking the top 20.

Has David Suzuki ever gone to see Nick?

Didn't Nick say he was like a 2nd uncle or something?

Would be fun to see them connect.

You can really tell the people who watch a ton of habs hockey vs those who casually catch a game. Fans of the habs or not. If you tuned in once a month to a habs game or caught the odd highlight, you might think to yourself that Suzuki doesn't appear to be all that talented. He on the surface isn't super fast, or imposing on the ice.

But what he absolutely is, is one of the smartest players I have ever seen. He rarely makes a bad decision. His demeanour is the forward equivalent of CP31 (ice cold). When you watch a lot of this team and focus on Nick, you will notice that he turns it up, only when he has too. His effort and energy is conserved for when it is needed both on the offensive end and defensive end. There is rarely a wasted movement on the ice, which allows him to maximize his potential.

Perhaps that is what it is. His intelligence on the ice allows for maximum output with his skill set. It is brilliant to watch and I think an indicator of long term success. Cut from the same cloth as a Patrice Bergeron.

Exactly the type of player to wear a C, and if I had to bet, he is exactly the type of player that will be playing on future Team Canada's in best on best situation
