Those “impossible-weird-angled-passes” and that laser wrist shot are so lethal. Love watching this guy, have not felt this since Kovalev.

Suzuki has really improved his faceoffs.
Now at 49.1% on the season not counting today (13/16 on faceoffs so far)

I remember talking about this last year. There was absolutely no reason to doubt he would improve. Now he just needs to gain more respect from the linesmen because they toss him far too easily IMO. With his character that will come.

The way he came back after his goal was disallowed with another snipe was badass. He just had Smith confused as hell. First snipe was low blocker, then comes back with the high glove. He’s like Bobby Fisher. Just a move ahead of his opponents.

He’s on schedule to be a very rare player. True Centerman. PPG player. Elite defensively. Can play all situations.

Elite defensively? I'm a HUGE fan of Suzuki and I've been perpetuating he's a fine two-way player who can line up with the opponents' best, but a quick look at his NHL stats page shows he's an impressive -17 for the season and -37 career-wise.

On the surface, that's not a positive goal differential at even strength. Is he that good on the PP and the PK to rue out this mark?

Where are we getting all this elite defensively stuff? Is the +\- States that superfluous? Why bother even taking it into account on a Stat sheet?

According to defensive WAR, Suzuki is a top 10 defensive forward in the league.

He's moving his feet like never before, it really adds to his game.

He's very skilled and his hockey IQ is very high. He's improving right in front of our eyes and it's hard to nit pick a flaw on Suzuki at this point in time. Skating is improving, 200' game is improving, faceoffs? not sure. His shot when he has time to walk in is very dangerous and he's getting more velocity/accuracy from what I can tell.

Potentially the best player since... who?

Patrice Bergeron

A lot of that is a function of playing on a crappy team. Bergeron was a -20 for his career at the end of his 3rd season. He has been a plus 262 since. Suzuki reminds me a lot of Bergeron

Nick Suzuki is incredible hockey player, we don't see his full potential, imagine in 2 years, this guy he is going to be a top C in this league, last year on pace 60 points, this year, on pace 60 points in 82 games too (with slow start and bad year for the team).

High hockey IQ, great shot, if he use more his shot on his spot on PP, he can put 25-30 goals per season, he is more a playmaker, but he is a great shooter too. He can do everything on ice.

He just need to put consistency on his game, with consistency, this guy can be a very special player for long time.

We can easily build around him.

Suzuki is at his best when he plays with an edge. When he gets cocky or when he’s finishing his hits. For some reason, when i see Suzuki going into the corner and hitting guys and getting dirty, i know right away that’s he’s gonna play a good one!
That's the telling sign indeed. He is super strong on the puck when he's on.

If there is one thing MB did right its that he signed Suzuki to a long term deal.
Bergevin made a lot of moves in his ten year tenure and I can name a few better than giving Suzuki a blank cheque. Suzuki at 7.8m for 8 years is far too much cap hit and term, the only comparable is Nico Hirscher and that's not a good thing.

In a couple of years we are going to be loving this deal.
I sure hope so. But it was clearly a gamble, and a bad one for a team that has over 20% of its cap to Weber and Price for the next four years... and another 20% to Armia, Gallagher, and Petry.

Suzuki just isn't productive enough to be worth 7.8m a year. Maybe he will be soon, but until then...

Let's agree that MSL has been a godsend for him.
