Not expecting Ritchie to be claimed considering the full year that's left on the contract. In the event he does clear waivers, I wonder if Dubas actively tries to move him afterwards?

I would be surprised if someone claimed him only because he has another year on that contract. I hope someone does claim him.

Hoping a team actually claims him. I can see a team like Buffalo potentially picking him up due to his style of play and them needing to hit the salary cap floor.

Knowing Dubas, yes. It's bad PR to other free agency to sign a guy to a deal like his and waive him 30 games into it (despite his bad play). But if Dubas clarifies that he'll work to trade Ritchie to a team who will give him a chance, it will save face.

Dubas has established a history of trading guys to give them an opportunity on other clubs.

That's fair. I'm thinking he can be moved. I'm just uncertain of what a trade would look like (ex. retaining or taking back salary) if it were to happen sooner rather than later (the offseason).

Can Ritchie even go onto the taxi squad? Can’t a taxi squad players salary not exceed 1 million?

Pretty much see this coming, it's just a matter of time when. He'd given many opportunites (got to play the top line in two separated chances) and the experience was over. Hopefully other team would claim him and his salary cap will be off the book.

His contract is the clear issue here. His saving grace for being claimed is that he is a big guy, rather intimidating (I guess).

He just hasn't been a fit. Doesn't mesh with the top guys and feels counter-productive in the bottom 6 with Simmonds already there.

Fine guy to be able to throw in the lineup in a pinch, but I would much rather be able to move on and save the money for an add at the deadline and use Anderson/Clifford if needed in the meantime. I don't know if a team would be willing to take a gamble on him with the extra year though.

It’s the most practical, evidence and results based decision at this time.
What you’d expect from this FO.

It was the only move of course.

I'm actually happy if he gets claimed or if he clears. Both work.

They eye test says that, but the stats say they Leafs were always in control.

yeah we were obviously better, but they were without McDavid, and have been terrible even with him - and we made some egregious mistakes that the stats don't quite capture either.

and even the stats say the 4th line was a disaster.
