Hall went for so cheap because he picked where got to play. Did Hall even want to play in Toronto? It sounded like he wanted Boston and Buffalo was dumb enough to give him a NTC on a one year deal.

he wanted Boston after Toronto passed, sure. Toronto had no interest, period. Our reporters were in agreement on that.

HFLeafsforum... Second guessing every trade, ever. Complaining about 1.8 goals per game, GM/coaching decision, lineup decision, obtain Ovechkin, every defensive play second guessed, and bashed to bits....and this is while we are winning a playoff series, 3-1....

There are some very "special" people in this group.

But hey... Go Leafs!!!

HFLeafs, where you can defend and agree with 95% of the moves the team makes but have one dissenting opinion and you're bashed to bits, very "special" indeed.

Buffalo still retained 50% on Hall for Boston. It would have just cost the Leafs a 4th to have some other team retain a further 50% like with Foligno. Even giving up a 1st for Hall would have been much smarter, but it would have been a 2nd

Hall is making $8M a year though (so more cap $$ for a team to absorb) and wouldn't provide any more offense, leadership, physicality or intangibles that all teams need in abundance this time of year.

I'm not happy he is injured either. If and when this team gets 100% healthy though, it's an impressive, top tier group. Deep enough that guys who were scratched come in and make world class plays and can easily slot in where needed.

Hall wouldn't have even been a top five choice for me at the trade deadline.

Wendel Clark is my favorite all-time Leaf and one of the best trades we ever made was trading him away for Sundin and one of the worst was when we reacquired him. Some people call it like it is, others are cheerleaders. Both valid paths.

And others specifically predicted a trade for foligno months before it happened and are very happy to have him.

The most valid path.

the reacquiring trade wasn't all that bad.

I mean I'm not going to blame Dubas for him getting hurt.

But a 1st for Foligno instead of a 2nd for Hall was always a bad move. Doesn't mean we can't still win the Cup but I've never understood it.

well, Hall didn't want to be here?

I would agree. A bit of an exaggeration. They were lucky to get Luongo and I never figure in luck when evaluating a trade, I look at is as a draft pick. Schneider was good. Still I didn't really care for the trade at the time as it made the Leafs older. It's nowhere even close to as lopsided as the Sundin trade.

Didn't we deal a young and solid stud Kenny Jonsson and 1st who was Luongo plus 2 throw in's????

Yes 100% agreed. Schneider and Jonsson you could argue were almost a wash.

We gave up Kenny Jonnson if I remember correctly. I don't think Kenny went on to be what we had hoped at the time of the trade...but it was very risky that he could have been Sundin-like going to the Isles and we would have really regretted it.

Do you really believe he didn't want to be here or just said that after he wasn't acquired by us and wanted to look good? Why would we want to go to Boston to play on a one line team when he could have played with JT?

I think he wanted to come here and Adams thought he could rinse us because of all the media hype about where he was going to go. Boston knew that we wouldn't pony up a whole lot and bet on that fact when they offered a 2nd.

It reminds of the draft...after its over...every single team says they got exactly who they targeted. Who is going to say they settled for a player(not counting Murray's thoughts on getting Eichel)?

A couple things I think shaped the Leafs decisions towards him.

1) at 75% retained Folingo gave the Leafs enough remaining capspace to add the other insurance depth pieces they needed. With Hall's higher caphit they wouldn't have had enough space

2) Folingo was valued more for his defensive play(where he's superior to Hall) and his heavy forechecking.

Hall, while an excellent player is very similar in terms of abilities/playing style is pretty much identical to the existing team forward core. Folingo added something missing

Agreed but if Dubas knew Foligno still had injury issues it changes the entire equation. If he got fleeced, different story but still upsetting. Sorry, giving up a 1st rounder for what we've seen so far is problematic no matter how we analyze it.

Giving up Kenny Johnsson and a 4th overall (ROBERTO LUONGO) wasn't bad?

We got Schneider back who was also pretty awesome. I'd say Jonsson <> Schneider back then. So essentially a 1st which they lucked out and drafted Luongo with - I say lucky because the guy above him and next 6-7 guys below didn't amount to all that much. I'm not saying we didn't lose the trade, just that it wasn't wretched.

well i believe he wanted to be in Boston last summer, didn't, and then basically forced the hand to get there at Trade deadline.

His value will ultimately determined by how he impacts the Leafs playoff run however long or short. So better or for worse way too soon to say.
