Actually agree with this. The way they handle their PR finally come back around to bite them and has turned the situation into even more of a distraction.

The Avs PR is likely acting secratively for legal reasons. They may not want to release, say, or insinuate too much info in the event the woman comes forth with her account of what the hell happened.
There are more parties involved than just Nishushkin and the Avalanche here.

They can still make a comment on the topic, even if it is vague. The organization not making an official statement at this point, vague or not, looks incredibly bad.

It will be interesting how the press conference goes today. Undoubtedly, there will be a heavy focus on this... especially to Bednar.

I’m surprised that no one is worried that Nichuskin might have raped the woman.
They said no legal issue or charges being filed so I guess it’s not that bad. I think he just drank and partied which wouldn’t be that big of a deal if it wasn’t in a middle of a playoff round

There is zero indication to think that is the case at all here.
We do know that Nichuskin appears to have had an intoxicated woman in his room that had to be taken to hospital. Did he force her to get drunk like that? If so, did he take advantage of her? If he did, that could be one reason he decided to leave. I hope it’s not the case. But, that is the worst case scenario I see.

The Avs PR haven’t f***ed anything up. Nichushkin likely has a decision to make with the team and others around him and when that’s decided the Avs will likely make a statement.

Those are some massive jumps. If there was any thought of a rape happening, there would have been a rape kit and charges already. Keeping that under wraps would be damn near impossible.

There is probably a very fine line of consent here with the woman being a sex trafficked prostitute... but there isn't any indication of rape in this story.

This thread is like watching a bunch of old ladies speculate on the latest neighborhood drama. Really weird.

I mean... losing the 3rd most important forward on the team right now to off ice issues is going to bring commentary. Even more when said team was a heavy favorite and is struggling massively. Nuke's status is of pretty high importance.

So timetable for Saturday Nicha events is:.

-he missed teams morning skate in Seattle
-around 3 pm team doctor went to his room with security to check what's going on with him
-they found intoxicated woman
-woman became aggresive
-after she was taken to the hospital they drove Nichushkin back to the airport

All in the game day.
Yeah, it doesn't sound good at all.

Seriously, is that it?

Unless he's being charged by police or suspended by the league then let's get this shit all figured out so that he can get back in the frikkin' lineup.

Even if he cheated on his wife, for all anyone knows they have an 'open' relationshiop and she doesn't care OR it's going to take a "Kobe-Size-Diamond" for her to forget about it.

Let's get this thing moving.

Agree on the Nuke part... but the PR part, they certainly screwed up. They hoped to bury the story and keep it quiet on their terms. The story has a public record that can be accessed (the Avs should have known that) and it shows the Avs are not exactly being forthcoming about it. Now instead of being ahead of the story and controlling the narrative, they are behind and going to be forcing their coach to answer some difficult questions here in a couple hours. That's a pretty big PR fumble.

Nichushkin f***ed up a hell of a lot more than the Avs. This is on him, not the org.
Yeah agree with that, but the Avs haven't handled this well at all.

PAY THE MAN HIS MONEY!!!!
Are we talking about the pimp now?

Just because they don't have a large crisis doesn't mean they don't need to have PR.

The running off the rails that it was a rape, she’s maybe a prostitute, etc etc - that’s straight TMZ stuff and nothing to do with losing him on the ice

Not true. Lots of women don’t come forward right away. Especially, when someone is famous. Look at what Trump is being sued for.

The authorities have a legal duty to investigate situations like this for sexual assault. If there was any indication of it, they'd be investigating it now.

Agree on the rape...

But the prostitute part... come on. Woman is a Russian citizen who was brought here, had her passport taken by a 'bad' guy, and is found in a situation common for said services... it is pretty textbook.

let me add to it a few missing details we know:

-he missed teams morning skate in Seattle
-around 3 pm team doctor went to his room with security to check what's going on with him
-they found intoxicated woman
-woman became aggresive
-they found Nuke elsewhere and one way or another he was not ready to play
-after she was taken to the hospital security escorted Nichushkin back to the airport
-Nuke has not rejoined the team despite not being suspended

it's very obviously more than just "let's get Nuke playing again, he's ready, all he did was cheat and party." you don't escort a guy to the airport with security for that, you suspend or otherwise discipline him and move on.

it very much sounds like a mental health or substance abuse issue, and Nuke is still not in a place where he can play. and may never be.
