My biggest takeaway from this is when he wanted to talk bout Val's "medical condition."

Obviously speculation, but that sounds related to painkillers to me. Which is what we've been speculating on as the genesis of the problem from playing through his injuries last year and this year.

Also would be why the Avs felt inclined to put his health and well being ahead of the team.

Well that was something. Clearly Val has a medical/substance problem that's been going on a while. One of those old guys when chatting on the phone with whoever escorted Val out, said "Ya I'm not surprised."

I don't know the context of it, but it wouldn't be too much of a leap to think he's referring to Val's substance abuse that night.

Who knows, but the Avs are going to have to address this before next season starts.

Your posts both essentially said: "I don't have any actual facts or data, buuuuut let me go ahead and make some assumptions anyway"

I was hoping for an actual update, but of course it's just more useless internet chatter.

Also reminded of this strip (not saying either of you are racist obviously)

You weren't hoping for anything. You just wanted to talk shit. But thanks for stopping by and telling people what they can and can't talk about on the internet Mao.

This is such poor journalism. They selectively edited that 20 minute video and added commentary to imply something more nefarious was going on, and Val was behind it, even though they have nothing to support that.

I don't know why people think Val is the guy she's referring to as the bad man. Do people really think he makes $6M a year playing hockey, and also risks prison time moonlighting as trafficker?

I don't, but I also wouldn't use this as my argument because there are a shit ton of athletes who have made more than Nichushkin has that do stupid stuff all the time.

Lol @ painkiller theory after watching this

You mean pain killers being his problem that night, or pain killers leading to other addiction problems?

Because the team doctor trying to talk to the officer about Val's medical health would only support that, not disprove it. Pretty much all the other stuff in the video we knew about.

If it's drug related, and his family is right that he never really drank or did drugs before, it's definitely possible it stemmed from pain killers initially, just like it has for countless others unfortunately.

Doing stupid stuff is pretty different than moonlighting as a trafficker though don't you agree? Rich athletes doing stupid stuff makes sense. Rich athletes involved in trafficking makes zero sense.

Plenty of motivation for the former, none for the latter.

Its June and this hasnt been cleared up yet lol.

I hope no one was actually expecting to get to the bottom of this or have anything cleared up until at least next September during training camp at the earliest. If ever.

Which if there isn't anything more nefarious going on, I'm okay with. Just like I don't need to know the details of all the problems other athletes and celebrities have.

I'm sure Sakic knows what happened, and maybe I'm being naive, but I trust his moral compass in this situation. Not many other teams or Presidents/GM's I would though.

The pain killer theory definitely has some legs in my opinion. It was pretty well known that Val played with a badly broken foot during the playoffs last year, and had been in and out of the lineup all season due to issues recovering from it. You’re crazy if you think these guys aren’t getting painkillers from the doctors so that they won’t miss games. It’s only human that sometimes people fall into the addiction side of things, and it unravels from there. In the little that has been relayed, it seems the team had no issue taking Val’s privacy into account, and deeming it a “personal issue.”

Val never really looked 100% all season, and that’s perhaps due to more than physical health. I hope the best for everyone involved, and I hope things get cleared up soon.

First off... the police handled the woman very poorly and that is incredibly disappointing. They should have found a Russian interpreter very early and attempted to help her more than just shuffle things along. That's very disappointing.

Now @Avaholics Anonymous each piece coming out just gives a bit more clarity on the situation. It is coming slow because the Avs and Nuke are not being forthright.... and police are doing police things. Here again we have confirmation of her being in the room and clearly intoxicated on some sort of substance. We also have her words clearly on her situation (and police fumbling that whole thing).

We also get a couple other tidbits. The woman and Nuke were being separated. They were trying to get her in another room. What this stems from is unclear, but safe to say there was some sort of issue where third parties had to step in. Another thing is we have confirmation of an issue that Nuke is having that is known. The doctor asks for privacy while he discusses it with police. It isn't a big leap to guess within a realm, but we have it quite clearly that there is an ongoing issue with Nuke that is related to this situation... not a one off thing. We also have confirmation that the Avs whisked Nuke away from the scene as quickly as possible and prior to the police showing up... and that he left with the Avs security detail. Pretty easy speculation as to why, but they didn't have Nuke even available to chat with the police. Which the Seattle police got the security guy's number (a off duty Denver police) to discuss with.
