Steelheads fan made the trip to the Meridian Centre last night. My first time there. Wow. You guys have an awesome arena and fantastic fan support. Nothing beats a rink being a 30 second walk to the bars and restaurants of the main downtown street. I'm envious.

That’s cute and all, but they’re going about correcting things the wrong way. Treating the team like they’re playing the Be A GM Mode on NHL22 is amazingly short sighted on their part.
The owner has wanted an OHL franchise for years, he definitely has a plan.
See how it works out before saying he is amazingly shortsighted. So far, it appears to me that his team is better for the next two seasons before rebuilding around 2-2007 born 1st picks.
I think the fact that he owns two jr teams and the good Niagara market he bought into will lead to success

I only know what has happened since he purchased the Icedogs. I’m not nearly interested enough to search his past. It seems to me that he (I should learn his name) is not ‘amazingly short sighted’; but came in ready to act on a plan to build a team of 2003-04 born that can be competitive enough this season to look like a worthy host of the memorial cup next season.
A lot of moves for sure. A lot of left shot forwards and right shot defence. But he took every opportunity to make the team better before transactions counted as player cards used this season.

he’s had plans at every level, they’ve never worked, why would they work now that the competition is higher?

I’ll guess learning from what did not work previously.

Looking ahead to 2023-24 having 4-F, 4-D, G born 2004 consisting of 3-1st, 2nd, 2-3rd, 4th round selections and an import along with good 2003 born as OAs already in place is a proven recipe for contention.

Welcome to Flint, Niagara. Here is too a good game. Not sure if all of Flint’s retuned NHL training camp players will be in the lineup tonight or not.

if they are home grown and built a culture. this is like the rangers back in the day with a hands on owner that threw money and assets at guys like fleury and holik. spend a ton of money and assets and never made the playoffs. niagara will make the playoffs but to suggest moving out 40 draft picks just to be an average team is not a strategy for success, it’s instant gratification and probably sets the team back long term.

Icedogs will not just be an average team next season imo. Teams that re-tool the season after adding to contend are not set back long term. The Icedogs will have several OAs and ‘05s to sell in 2024-25 season.
You counted picks out minus picks in equals 40? It (seems closer) to 10 picks and four players and a defect for 9 players and an import without a visa…so maybe closer to a half dozen picks if accounting for two comp picks.
