not sure hes any better then what they already have?
Obviously the Icedogs are not convinced Costanza is OHL ready this season and a #1 goalie next year.
Flores is 2004 born; that’s better than using an OA spot on Rosenzweig and/or looking for a 19 yr old starter next season.
The cost seems high to me though. He has to be a solid this year, a good starter next year, and probably worth something in a trade as an OA to justify that cost.

I really don't understand this trade at all. It seems we have 3 goalies that are all pretty much at the same level. What really worries me is how the new owner seems to throw away draft picks like they grow on trees. Draft picks are how you build your team. The new owner seems to use draft picks like it's currency just waiting to be spent.

Did you guys just have a goalie go down? Seems odd he wasn't just part of the initial trade seeing as the picks are just getting sent back from the Dickinson haul
Not sure what the plan is for the IceDogs now on the goalie front, but when a defected 1st rd pick is traded a team can only receive draft picks in return.

Surprised how many people seem to think this trade means Rosenzweig is out. Is he still not the #1? Can't see a team making all the moves NIA did this offseason and then going into the season with Costanzo and Flores as their goalies.

Would appear to make more sense to send Costanzo to Jr A than to go into the season with Costanzo/Flores as the only 2 goalies

I’m sure the GM saw Flores in the GOJHL last year for the London Nationals and liked what he saw.
It does set them up nicely with an 03, an 04 and an 05 goalie.
The only (obvious) problem being that none have shown they’re even an .885 save % OHL level goalie at this point, let alone the #1 on a top tier team, like Niagara clearly wants to be this year

its not even trading for an 04, its the amount of picks they gave up for a guy that may be no better then what they already have? if you get flores for a 4th, maybe that makes sense, london traded onsuka for a 6th and a conditional 4th, that seems more inline with what flores should have been

Could be that Niagara wanted Flores in the Dickinson deal but you can't trade players so LDN said okay we'll just give you an extra 2nd and then you can just give it back a week from now

Thanks for the clarification I wasn't aware that was the case. So good chance this was the plan all along and just had to make it right on paper.

Headed up to Niagara tomorrow. We have some time to kill before the game. What’s good to eat and see?

We haven’t been up since the last OHL game in Niagara before the world shut down so I can’t remember what we did last time.

So the Ice Dogs cleared house in their scouting department too this past summer? I read that Adam Henrich was hired as the new director of scouting. Roger McLeod unemployed?

he wasnt even qualified to be a regional scout, let alone leading a scouting group, doubt you ever see him again in the ohl.

Awful, Awful Trade! The IceDogs drafted him early in the 2nd round in 2021, he had a decent rookie season as a 16 year old and then they trade him away for a 4th and 12th round pick. The IceDogs need a new GM.

Costanza was not as good as Rosenzweig last season or in pre-season; and, Flores earned the starting gig imo. It is not an ideal return on investment for Niagara, but it is a good for player card management; especially if Costanza had a gold education package. And maybe Costanzo requested a trade because he wasn’t seeing the net in Niagara this season and very likely backing up Flores next season and possibly the season after that.
