In theory, the Board. In practice, Branch. Rolf Nilsen in Flint also unsuccessfully appealed the sanctions levied against him back in 2016.

Here’s a quick summary of how the process worked with Nilsen: https://thehockeynews.com/news/flin...-nilsen-wont-be-completely-out-of-the-picture

One of the things in DD’s statement I find interesting is that he omits any mention of the players who were suspended for life and only seems upset about the sanctions against himself (suspension) and the IceDogs corporate entity ($100K fine).
He either agrees with the league regarding the players, but disagrees with sanctions against him and the team

OR

Doesn't care at all about any player that plays for him.

I know which I think it is.

You mean this part of his statement: “We are also working in earnest to ensure that we provide supports to our players and their families during this difficult time, given the uncertainly they all face. I will be working with the interim management team to put those supports in place.”

My best guess is that he doesn’t view “supports to our players and their families” as hockey ops work.

What I’m missing is any sense of what supports the players need. Few of them are in Niagara now (they’ve all gone home) and do they need “support” dealing with the owner’s suspension? The $100K fine? DD doesn’t mention anything else in his statement

Ya I may be reading it wrong but doesn't sound like he is stepping away all that easily. Should he not just appointment someone and let them do the " meeting" stuff? I'm not sure parents would take comfort from him right now.
There is also victims in this so has anybody addressed what is being down to help them? I'm sure they are not looking for DD to give them guidence with that. He failed the first time as a GM to protect them.

All true. However, given the GM’s addiction to trades, who knows if the victims are even still on the team?

Nilsen was a nut. I remember a story when his then 14 year old son was trying out for a junior A team and he was going to get released, he wanted to buy the team right then and there. Just too bad the owners at the time bought the team for their own son to play in a few years time but I remember hearing that story when Rolf's suspenion came down

Looks like the owner is lawyering-up:

Quote:

“But it must be noted that I have yet to receive a copy of the report of the OHL’s investigation and I would ask the Commissioner’s office to provide said document to me and my legal counsel for immediate review. I take these allegations very seriously, so it is imperative that I be given an opportunity to review the OHL’s findings, in detail, with my legal counsel.

I look forward to filing my appeal and defending my position.

I would ask you to direct all comments and inquiries to my legal counsel at Lucentem Sports and Entertainment Law.”
Why would he be requesting this info in a public forum .
He could just call the league office.
I'm sure he knows exactly what's in it anyways .

I see where you are going with this but there has to be tools in place to set him up for success.
We were seeing stories of these guys not even getting great meals on the road and stuff like that.
There is a glaring ownership issue here. One the league probably should have forseen with any research into this owners hockey history at all but here we are...

I couldn't see sending my kid into that mess..
I agree 100%. Not getting meals, long bus rides the day of the game instead of going up the day before and staying in a hotel, inexperienced coaching staff, etc. The IceDogs are not set up for success on the ice. The owner's main concern seems to be lowering costs.

Anyone know what involvement, if any, the city haf with the Memorial Cup bid? Obviously with the investigation happening this bid was destined to fail. If the city was involved and most likely didn't know anything about the investigation then I don't see how they could ever work with this ownership group again
Yes, the city was involved and agreed to waive ice fees, pay for street closures, etc. Also there was a group of local business people on a Memorial Cup Committee to help with the planning. It included some individuals who were involved with the Canada Summer Games that was held in Niagara last summer. I don't see those individuals getting involved with the IceDogs again.

was there not supposedly a group of NHLers (Stamkos, Hamilton and a couple others IIRC) kicking around buying the team last year?
I had heard rumblings that Dougie was one of the NHL'ers kicking the tires on the IceDogs franchise last year. Let's see if he's up for another go-round; this time, add some other ex-IceDogs as part of the ownership group(Ryan Strome, Alex Pietrangelo etc.)and some other local business folks.

Ouch. Would have figured there was several teams that could use him on their roster. Get a few picks for him but if he thinks university is best, good luck to him.
I’ve seen some pretty good players forgo their OA season to go to school. This might be a way to force a trade though.

This looks an awful lot like last offseason.
Who is the acting GM?
Is DD even following the sanctions?
There aren't many out there with the appetite for the crazy amount of trades ( for good reason )this team has been making

Ok here’s my Pepe Silva theory for this:

DD tells whoever is the acting GM to make ATROCIOUS trades to tank the team to kingdom come. Then when he is allowed back, he gets them back to 0.500 hockey and presents himself as the savior of Ice dogs hockey.

Or

Everyone involved with this franchise is a moron.

Either/or. Por que no los dos?
