So is the suggestion that Matthews agent and dubas agent would conspire to have Matthews leave and go here he goes?

Is that the idea?

Could they not have just had that conversation themselves? While members of the leafs?

You don’t comprehend what a conflict of interest is, do you?

Dubas gave those out everybody.

Can you believe Justin Holl had a NMC too? Justin M.F. Holl, one of the most useless defenceman in the league and Dubas feels the need to hand him a NMC along with $6M over three years.

Dubas is the worst negotiator in pro sports history.
Holl had a modified no-trade clause, not a NMC.

Nylander’s played an extra year than the other two.
Had to wait until I was home from kids baseball to check in to why, but it's because that first season he didn't reach 40 games in the NHL to count as an accrued year towards reaching 7.

That is what I thought was strange

Dubas also wanted the Colorado job and Shanahan blocked him

Dubas contract ends
No trades kick in
Was he preparing for his big move if it didn't work out Mathews follows him ?

Their trade protection started as soon as they were eligible, like basically every other notable RFA in the league.

Pridham wrote the CBA that set that limit, open your eyes sheeple!

Shanny, Bettman, Dubas, and Pridham collaborated to design the prototypical 1C Arizonan test tube baby, rigged the draft, and put him in Toronto with an NMC to save the Tempe proposal and grow the game once and for all. This agency stuff is all a distraction from the real conspiracy.

Dubas doesn't have to worry. The lawyers at MLSE can drown this kind of nuisance in paper. Oh wait...

Seriously, if the guy negotiating the contract for Dubas isn't an actual registered agent with the PA and the league (I'm assuming he isn't, maybe he is) then I suppose no rules about agents applies here.
Is it possible agents from the same agency might talk to each other in an attempt to increase their commissions?

Even if this isn't against the NHLPA rules, it at the very least is a blatant conflict of interest and The Dube should know better.

Doug Mac thought it was strange that Dubas had an agent and that he wasn’t on the same page as team coming in with a late offer.

Didn’t Matthews’ agent switch to this firm during his contract negotiation?

Wasserman presents Dubas with x contract proposal from a Leaf player. Wasserman says accept the offer and we will make sure you get a split of commissions and we will also lower any fees you might incur or waive them when using our services. In addition lower demands in future player negotiations.

This is where I think it is problem. I am not saying this is what happening. But this scenario could happen.

The optics are just as important as the truth; Sometimes even more important.
Here’s a hypothetical.

Agent to player…sign on with me and I can get my other client who is the GM of this team to sign you to an above market contract.

Or…

Agent to client GM…sign these client players of mine and I’ll do your contract for a discount or for free.

I think it's more that article is just badly written/engaging in click bait.

It says that "Seravalli reports" the NHL is investigating, which he doesn't in his own article on the issue NHLPA reviewing Kyle Dubas’ relationship with agent for potential conflict of interest
Oh, I see. Now we're taking things literally. How interesting.

They’re kicking in because they have reached 7 years in the NHL and it’s the first year they are eligible for them.

The only mastermind behind the timing is the Gregorian calendar.
And just who, pray tell, gave them those NTCs in that first year? It's not mandatory.

It's just a little too unusual - Kyle "negotiated" for the Core players maximum salary, minimum term, and NMNT clauses which gave these players every advantage while winning nothing for his employer MLSE. WTF? Seriously, who was this guy working for? Certainly not the company who hired him, signed his paycheque, and trusted him to represent their interests.

But not unexpected either. Nothing so unusual as to raise eyebrows. It'd have been stranger if they didn't get them. There's just nothing there that smells of some super-villain level evil planning, is all. Wished they were longer myself at the time.

I don't get why the PA cares. Do they think Matthews is underpaid?

The whole thing doesn't make sense to me - those raising the alarm and the NHLPA investigating doesn't make any sense... though the NHL investigating does if they find collusion has been happening, at the expense of the Toronto Maple Leafs for example.

Plus, I'm not sure Dubas is the one that would get into any actual trouble here... he might take a reputational hit but otherwise I'm not sure. Wasserman probably takes a hit as an agency if they've crossed streams and behaved in a collusive manner. I'm guessing maybe that Armstrong guy isn't all that bright, not being certified by the NHLPA, not really negotiating as typically done...

It feels more like a perfect storm of incompetence and inexperience than a careful conspiracy TBH.

Wouldn’t surprise me if MLSE board of directors get the NHL involved here as well which could mean potential trouble for Dubas with the Pens job kinda like the Chayka situation.
Dubas broke a rule?

Which one?
