When things like this come out straight to the media within a week of Dubas leaving MLSE, it's not an accident. MLSE don't appear to be playing around. If there's another Dubas-was-done-dirty media rumour floated, who knows what else MLSE has in the chamber? Kyle Dubas would not be the first hockey guy to be made persona non grata.

Everyone: Wasserman corporate, Dubas, the Agent, even Shanahan for the lack of oversight.
I don't think that is true. It certainly doesn't have poor optics for the Leafs l, Shanny or Dubas. They are not really involved.

How many of them over 11M ?
5 of the 8 cap hit percentages that would equal a cap hit over 11m under the same cap were 5 year terms.
Also walked straight into FA
"Walked straight into FA" generally refers to a contract that does not buy UFA years. Matthews' contract buys a UFA year.
If your definition of "walk straight into FA" is just that the contract ends in UFA status, then the overwhelming majority of post-ELC contracts "walk straight into FA".
with a complete NMC.
Also very common for that caliber of player in the years it is allowed.

I'm sure someone could doctor this up.

If so, wouldn’t the NHL be looking at it more aggressively than the NHLPA?

who is to say they won't depending on the outcome of NHLPA investigation.

This just in from NHL insider Frank Seravalli, former Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas is under review for a potential violation in his failed negotiations with the Leafs last week.

Officially Seravalli reports that the NHL is reviewing the relationship between Dubas and his agent at the high-profile Wasserman agency for potential violation of the NHLPA Certified Agent regulations.

Direct wording of the rule in question:

Agents are prohibited from … representing, providing services to, either directly or indirectly, or engaging in or proposing to engage in business ventures with … any officer, employee or independent contractor of an NHL Club, other Professional Hockey Club or Canadian Major Junior Hockey Club or any other entity affiliated with any of the foregoing, including but not limited to coaches, general managers, scouts and locker room personnel.“

Personally, I didn't even know this was a rule and it strikes me as kind of funny. After all, isn't the agent simply working in the best interests of his client? If I'm an agent for Dubas or Matthews, I'm simply trying to get them the best deal possible with no real regards as to how the two affect each other.

In any case, Seravalli reports that the NHL warned teams back in 2022 that these types of dealings will be more strictly enforced moving forward and it looks now like Dubas is the first team employee to be under review. It's unclear what the penalty is for violating this rule and whether or not that penalty will ultimately be made public.

folks here were saying that NHL is not looking into this but this article says they are too.

Plot thickens!

So much chaos surrounding Dubas right now.

Based on all the info we’ve been hearing from him, I can’t tell if he’s going to be promoted to a President and GM role with another franchise in a matter of days or is at risk of getting black balled from all the noisy shenanigans, hints at impropriety and board room power plays.

This guy might need a summer off, lay low and find a new landing spot when things have quieted down.

Plot Twist:

Dubas leaked this story on purpose to ruin Matthews' negotiations with the leafs ;)

The Gatorade is making the forwards gay like the frogs!

If we really want to get out our tinfoil hats. I wonder which “rival agents” this is coming from. Could be a guy like Pat Brisson… the close childhood friend of the Marc Bergevin. Isn’t he in the running for a lot of the same jobs as Dubas?

And when:

Edmonton got Chiarelli and McLellan
Buffalo got Bylsma
Sharks got DeBoer
Devils got Hynes
Columbus got Tortorella

Just so people don't think only Toronto was affected by this.
Agree, but they opened this rule up for Torontos moved and realized it was stupid after a few of them later and then closed it.

Dubas is such an amateur in every way.

Totally unqualified to be working at the professional level.
Go look at his background. The only reason he got a job in the OHL was his grandfather and father. Total nepotism and the guy turns down 4 mil to be GM of the most valuable team in Pro Hockey

What an entitled fool. Believes he's there because of Talent? Umm dude your daddy got you into hockey.

Dubas is not under investigation, title needs amending. His agent and the agency representing him is being reviewed for any potential violation of the NHLPA certified agent rules, but from the read of the article there's been no actual violation.

The GM' and Agents were told in 2022 that these practices would be looked into by the NHL or NHLPA
