I like the Las Vegas Knights. Imagine a billboard in Vancouver or Winnipeg advertising the team to get out of towners; "Come for the nights, stay for the Knights"

He said there was no deadline for the drive.
“If they’re still doing the drive in September, my guess is it’s not going to make it,” he said. “We’ll find out. My guess is over the next few weeks
Once this has been established any guesses as to when the Las Vegas Whatevers begin their ignaurable season? 2016-17? Would that be too soon? Perhaps 2017-18?
Hockey Las Vegas just called my cellphone with a special offer
Not so much. If you use any kind of likeness on a 3rd jersey or whatever, even build a promotion around Elvis, you'd have to go through Authentic Brands who control the physical & intellectual property rights and like their forerunners in EPE from whom they acquired those rights... highly litigious. So depending on the parameters, if such was contemplated then for sure their attorneys would be wise to talk with Authentic first, quickly discovering that rights fee's would be required. Just how much would depend on just what it was they wanted to do, how they planned to use the image, iconography. Dead celebrities, huge, sophisticated & highly lucrative sub-genre of the endorsement sector.
Because of two reasons:
- Bettman wants the expansion fee from Las Vegas, and
- The league does not want to relocate the Coyotes, nor does the team's owner, Andrew Barroway.
For the nine hundred seventy-five millionth time, the NHL is going to exhaust all possibilities it can to avoid seeing another team relocate because expansion is more profitable and because relocation is a sign of overall weakness.
If anyone is interested Bettman talks Vegas in about the las 5-10 mins of PTS last night. Here's the link

It's a good listen. Though not much new he made an interesting comment about being the first major league in the market.
A major league sports franchise with "deep pockets" will not be able to hide behind that excuse, especially if they use the likeness to generate income. If they want to do it, their attorney will probably tell them to do it right, pay the required royalties, and avoid lawsuits.Oh, I know. But, you cannot sue under "parody law" if they don't deliberately refer to Elvis as Elvis, which is why all depictions of 1970s Elvis (the one they don't acknowledge) are referred to as "Rhinestone Jumpsuit Man" or "Overweight Southern Singer".
But, yeah, they were the pioneers of getting people to pay them to get the visual rights, as they have sued churches and schools over it. So I thought that should be discussed.
What. So there are still season tickets available for the Las Vegas ticket drive? Who woulda thunk...
Prospective NHL team owner strikes deal with Opportunity Village
Bill Foley, prospective owner of a possible NHL team in Las Vegas, has already cut the team’s first business deal with a local organization.
Even though the NHL Board of Governors has not yet approved a team for Las Vegas, the Foley-led Hockey Vision Las Vegas has agreed to pay $1 per ticket sold in its first year to Opportunity Village, a Las Vegas not-for-profit that helps people with intellectual disabilities.
...
Opportunity Village would receive $717,500 the first year if all 17,500 seats are sold per game for the entire 41-game home schedule.
In return, the popular charity will use its vast network of contacts to spread the word that Foley-Maloof wants 10,000 season ticket deposits in Las Vegas to show NHL team owners and league officials that the Las Vegas market is worthy of a team. After launching the ticket deposit campaign on Feb. 10, Hockey Vision has more than 7,000 deposits.
Bettman not concerned with slowing momentum
Pierre LeBrun tells us "there is no Deadline.... going into September" etc. I was under the impression there was/is in fact a Deadline, that Gary Bettman wanted this wrapped up no later than the end of May ahead of the scheduled NHL BOG's Meeting no?..... Thats been the gist of a lot of the conversation here. That an announcement could come during the Playoffs, during or after, coinciding with the BOG's Meeting. Theres no way this is going to take longer than a few weeks max from todays date to hit the targeted 10,000. No idea what LeBrun is on about there suggesting no deadline... that Foley might not reach 10,000 until September. Crazy talk.

Do you know if this ticket drive is like the Jets ticket drive where you have to make an X-year commitment right up front?
Deposits are made with a 1, 3, 5, or 10 year commitment.
Lower level (except the ends) is 3, 5, or 10
Upper deck (plus ends) is 1, 3, or 5.
