NHL unveils reverse retro jerseys

Any chance we'll see a Seals sweater? Or the Barons? Or the Scouts?
Definitely not the Scouts since KC relocated to Denver then to New Jersey. The Devils will be using their own colors and presumably their logo. The Devils will be featuring a jersey from 1982, their first season in NJ.

The Golden Seals became the Cleveland Barrons, then became the Minnesota North Stars, then became the Dallas Stars. Dallas is using a jersey from 1999, so it seems unlikely.

Just to be extra-clear, the Barrons merged with the North Stars.

And the San Jose sharks are also tied to the Seals franchise, beyond just geographical area and the fact that both clubs played at the Cow Palace in suburban San Francisco: The owner of the Seals-Barrons-North Stars, the Gunds were granted an expansion team in the Bay as a condition of agreeing to sell the North Stars.

The expansion draft also involved a convoluted dispersal system where the sharks could first pick players and prospects from the North Stars before both teams stocked up on players from other league teams.

So there's definitely some Seals DNA in the sharks history.

I agree, but the Sharks don’t own any of the rights to the Seals, so I’m not sure how other franchises would feel about them profiting from their history.

I think the team sent a tweet out the other day, and the animation suggested that the jersey will be primarily blue. But I couldn't make much more out of it.

My hunch has always been that they will swap the red parts of the jersey for blue and vise versa.
I know what it looks like, just be nice to see real teaser pics like 98% of the other teans did..

I really doubt other teams would care. Dallas doesn’t stop Minnesota from selling North Star stuff. Plus didn’t the avs use the old colorado Rockies logo as a shoulder patch or something?

i dont think the devils cared one bit when the avs took on a similar look as the rockies for the 3rd….the organization has left the previous cities histories behind (aside from some idiotic mimicking of the width of arm stripes in '17)

Red shoulda just been black with the logo the only red feature

Haven’t even seen the full thing but those should be the full time jerseys for the stars.

Still disappointed with how boring they went with the islanders jersey. A reverse retro theme and seeing what some of the other teams did the isles jersey is underwhelming. Hopefully it looks clean though.

Yeah, I'm not sure who owns those rights (were they transferred automatically to the Stars?) or whether the San Jose sharks even have any interest in celebrating (or profiting) from the NHL's first club in the bay area. The only thing I found was an article from a few years ago where the Sharks celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Seals before one game (several old players were in attendance and fans received a seals t-shirt).

As other posters have already mentioned, we've seen the Avs adopt Rockies-esq secondary logos, Jets 2.0 wear "their" old colours and logo (heritage jersey), and now the Wild sporting green-and-gold... so who knows?

It will come. I think the league is probably asking to spread these teasers out to try and keep some sort of buzz going during the off season as long as possible.

75-80 you might have an argument. 06-10 was nowhere near as good as the black and red days. Got bounced first round in 10 and 11. 07 was obviously great til the Ottawa series.

Meanwhile look at their playoff appearances in the black and reds. 98, 99, 01, 06.

06 was even better than 07. They were a win away from the cup finals but I think they were missing like 3 or 4 dmen for game 7.

One thing as a neutral I can say is that the mid 2000s sabres were infinitly more entertaining than the "black" Sabre days. The earlier sabre teams had the biggest star in hasek, but Ryan Miller was no slouch either, and the talent/depth is not comparable.

Now that I think about it though, I wonder if Buffalo was still wearing those black jerseys in 06. I can't recall anymore, but I definitely associate those jerseys to a different era.

NBC posted a third pic with burgundy fleur-dis-lis, so it's definitely a Nordiques jersey for the Avs;
EmzTGcmXEAAHwKI

Which I can only imagine will cause similar divison to Carolina's use of the Whalers.

If you wanted to piss off an entire province and open up old wounds that are still bleeding, you couldn't have picked a better one!
