Seeing as we had them up until 2006, it isn't really 90's nostalgia.

Its probably because personally I always think blue when I think of Buffalo sports and the Sabers. I think they are a better suited style for a team like NJ or Ottawa

every team in Ottawa wears red and black, hec they even called the football team the RedBlacks

C'mon man! Don't let the 90's nostalgia virus affect you. Those jerseys were hideous then and just the same today. Same goes for the original Coyotes tarps. Its like missing dial up internet.

I don't mind them at all, just they are the wrong logo for a team named "Sabres". The third jersey they had at the time, with the crossed sabres on red, would not have been bad for an AHL team or something, either.

Seeing as they're now using the royal blue set permanently, the only retros that make sense would be the black-and-white goathead. Ask any Sabres fan and they'll tell you our best teams in modern era donned those jerseys (Hasek years and immediately after the lockout). The 07 team didn't put up much of a fight against Ottawa and it was all downhill from there, not to mention how much everyone hated the slug.

I never knew this. Who'd have thought the Canadian capital would get its sport colors from a Spanish-American war regiment?

I think the team sent a tweet out the other day, and the animation suggested that the jersey will be primarily blue. But I couldn't make much more out of it.

My hunch has always been that they will swap the red parts of the jersey for blue and vise versa.

Were they that much more successful 96-06 than they were from the mid 70s-mid 80s? Both eras had various degrees of playoff runs and both eras with an appearance in the cup finals

75-80 you might have an argument. 06-10 was nowhere near as good as the black and red days. Got bounced first round in 10 and 11. 07 was obviously great til the Ottawa series.

Meanwhile look at their playoff appearances in the black and reds. 98, 99, 01, 06.

They're named after the Song written and performed by the man who first published a Blues recording, the Father of the Blues WC Handy (though I'm told it's less Blues and more a march)
