Ok. I get it. So there is no way to watch the games now without getting some form of TV, be it streaming or actual cable. This kinda sucks.

Going to be super hard as I have season tickets to the Canes and usually watch the Rangers when I get home if they are playing on the same night.
I really am assuming this is coming. It's a new thing for ESPN+, even if both are Disney Streaming Services, so they have to add the programming to all of the apps on all of the platforms. They all use different programming, so you can't just do it for the Roku and for FireStick/Cube at the same time, for example. That development takes time and it really hasn't been that much time since they signed the deal.
Like I said, we're going to have some bumps here to start things off this year. I expect the product to improve over time.
My concern is that this isn’t a new platform. The ESPN app has been around for years and people have been asking for this functionality for years, yet we still don’t have it.
I mean Hide Scores and Start from Beginning should be streaming service must haves. Apparently not for ESPN….
The app on my TV has it, is it the ESPN mobile app that doesn't provide this?
No. Unless you’re in NY and get MSG. 4 th game of season v Toronto is NHLNSo the game tonight isn’t on ESPN+. I assume this is just a preseason thing? Am I going to be able to watch every Ranger game this year with my ESPN+ subscription?
Now? That's always been true...
Yeah I worded that wrong. Was referring to the inability to now use a purely streaming service such as NHL.tv. You now have to invest in some form of cable, be it Fubo, Sling, DirecTV, etc.
If they're on ESPN+ (most games) you can watch them on ESPN+. I'm in Charlotte, NC. This is replacing the NHL packageSo, if I'm out of market, I can't get Rangers games through ESPN+?
You don't need cable. You need a streaming service that can include ESPN+. I have a Verizon unlimied plan and get ESPN+ free. I'm actually saving by not having to add NHL.tv (which doesn't exist any more. I've cut the cord on cable and have even more to watch for less per month.Yeah I worded that wrong. You always had to do that though. NHL.tv was never enough to get every game.
Fair enough. I'm in NC so the Rangers are out of market and in the event they had a national game I either waited for the blackout to lift or I found other means. NHL.tv actually served me quite well. Except for Canes games. Haha
You need to be on the Unlimited Data planI have Verizon. I will look into this.
Edit: I upgraded my Disney+ to get ESPN but if there is a cheaper way I would love that.
I generally watch games live so ESPN+'s lack of score blocking won't often bother me. It will annoy me a lot thought when I can't watch live.Im in NC also, but I’ve never been content to wait until national games were available on NHLtv to watch them, so I always had Sling as well for the NBCSN games. If I were a fan of another team that wasn’t so often on national TV I might not have bothered, but the 12 or so games (which was the max, now it’s 13) they were guaranteed to be on national were too many for me to dismiss.
I don’t think anything has changed for you though. If you were content to wait before, ESPN+ will work for you now, especially once they reintroduce the programming that NHLtv had with start from beginning and score hiding on all platforms. Actually, ESPN+ is better for you than NHL.tv was, because there are only 6 national games that won’t be shown live on ESPN+ instead of the 12 that weren’t on NHL.tv.
