CANADA avg viewership (English only):
-FRIDAY-
SN Oilers-Stars: 1.667M
-SATURDAY-
Rangers-Panthers: 1.408M
-CBC: 685k
--SN: 723k
-SUNDAY-
SN Stars-Oilers: 2.347M
-Combined USA/CAN #'s (English-only)-

Disappointing number. Was expecting closer to 3.5M with no NBA competition.-Stanley Cup Playoffs viewership Saturday-
ESPN Rangers-Panthers: 3.016M

They're taking the same logic than ESPN putting big games on cable instead of broadcast right? It shows how I listed it ("SN") but forgot to note that Game 5 & Game 6 of Oilers-Stars were NOT shown on CBC -- if interested in how well that decision went over there's a ton of articles so it's easy for anyone interested to find.
Also forgot to note that -mostly due to no CBC simulcast- the rarity of the all-US matchup being more-viewed across U.S & Canada than the series involving a CAN team in Games 5 & 6. Rare.

that is on the NHL's TV partners. They bought a product (hockey on TV) and now they need to resell it to consumers.Nobody outside hockey fans knows who Edmonton stars are though.
Just another example of the decline of hockey in Canada. A few years ago the thought of a conference final game involving a Canadian team not being on CBC would have been absurd. Yet here we are now. The fall of hockey in Canada is shocking. No, CBC can show the games as part of their deal. They just had other stuff scheduled in advance -- awards show & some reality competition -- and stuck with that.
Just grabbed the first article that came up in a search -there's a ton of them- but it lays it out well. Lot of Canadians were not happy, understandably and obviously so.

uefa champions league final on cbs got 2.3 rating . So champions league game and a wnba were both able to defeat the mighty nhl.CANADA avg viewership (English only):

Absolute embarrassmentMore Americans watched the soccer game on Saturday (involving a team I’ve never heard of and can’t even pronounce) than the prime time playoff game involving the New York market.
3.62M vs 3.02M

CBC doesn't make money showing SN hockey feed. So, financially, it was the better choice. But the 2 programs selected to pre-empt hockey shows the decline of CBC programming.Just another example of the decline of hockey in Canada. At this point I think we should just all put them on ignore. Let them bitch and overreact amongst themselves instead of derailing an informative threadUCL Final on CBS did not at all get a 2.3 rating.

0.9 WNBA (Clark)

3.02M Rangers-Panthers (ABC)
2.32M UCL Final (CBS)
2.07M MLB regional (FOX)
1.53M WNBA/Clark (ESPN)
Literally over a 1/3rd of the audience was in the most coveted 18-49 demographic, but go offThe world is changing, hockey is on the same path as jousting. It was great while it lasted but once the old timers die off the number of viewers will be very low.
Weird that the peak was less than the earlier game in the series on ABC, but that game only got 2.3 million viewers.
I wish we got to see the quarterly numbers like we sometimes used to.
But yeah, my best guess is because Game 3 went to OT and presumably that's when the peak was. Estimated runtime of 218 minutes, 2.459M avg viewership (Final # went up from the Nielsen Fast National #,) with a 3.81M peak.
While Game 6 had a runtime of 180 minutes, 3.016M avg viewership with 3.7M peak.
So Game 6 had a more consistent audience.
The UCL would have been way worse if Real Madrid were not in it.UCL Final on CBS did not at all get a 2.3 rating.

A Bayern and Dortmund final could have drawn great numbers in Canada because of Davies. The UCL would have been way worse if Real Madrid were not in it.
Third best number all time and the best without an english team on.The UCL would have been way worse if Real Madrid were not in it.
You're always losing in big games like the UCL final due to the spanish networks factor between Univision and TUDN they added 1.3MMore Americans watched the soccer game on Saturday (involving a team I’ve never heard of and can’t even pronounce) than the prime time playoff game involving the New York market.

I would think a large Spanish part was watching on CBS as well.Third best number all time and the best without an english team on.
