NHL.TV / Center Ice / ESPN+ Discussion - Part IV [See the warning in OP]

Oh boy, I am getting tired of not being able to enjoy watching hockey via ESPN on my PC (connected via Ethernet). I'm lucky if it is 720p or better most of the time. If I watch on both of our Apple TVs (one on WiFi, one on Ethernet), I get hi-def consistently.

Pretty frustrating.

I use this command line utility to download full games (requires active NHL.TV subscription):
GitHub - rhdpin/nhltv-fetcher: Download NHL.TV full game feeds or watch the feed with VLC

It doesn't fix the quality issues with some/many feeds, but at least I can watch always with the best available quality with whatever media player app I like (on whatever device I like). It supports also opening live streams on VLC.

I miss nhltv, much better then espn. I also could spoof my location to get around terrible announcers.

I just got NHL.tv. I hadn't used the service in about 2 years.
The quality is much much worse than what it used to be. Every stream was 60 fps, 720p. Right now it looks like upscaled 360p @25 fps. I haven't tested it on a computer yet...

I didn't want to make a new thread so figured I'd post here.

Is the NHL website absolutely awful for anyone else? For years now the box scores have been glitchy in different ways (though not so on mobile) and this season the whole website is so laggy and slow. If it's just my laptop I'd like to know.

Why does it take a lot longer for the scores on top to load, and while you wait the rest of the site becomes useless. How can the NHL have such a really terrible website.

Even better.

Sportsnet app on my S22 needs an update and now the app isn't compatible with my phone. FML

Both feeds for the Oilers - Habs game are a blurry mess. Fascinating how they don't even care.
The feeds like from Sportsnet / TSN are like that for me on Center Ice (directv). I wonder if it is a resolution issue between US/Canada. Through oddly when a game is on CBC the feed is clear (even though it is SN production).

Great effort by EPSN Australia with the Kings Vs Penguins on Dustin Brown night. The replay consists of a 1 minute 39 second clip of the post game including the final score....

I was impressed with ESPN+ actually putting on the entire Dustin Brown retirement ceremony. Usually they just put on the game and you miss the pregame stuff so that was nice of them to provide the whole thing. I bet they are going to do the same thing with Patrick Marleau in a couple weeks.

Motherf***ing NHL.tv during a motherf***ing ESPN+ broadcast once again inserts static screens for 17+ minutes straight during intermissions, so that you need to constantly worry that your stream is frozen, with zero intermission coverage, cutting off announcers mid-sentence, etc. etc. etc. They are goddam stupid stinking morons that don't deserve our subscription money.

Hard to say. When I watch Kings games via Bally Sports West via NHL.tv, at least they're showing intermission coverage, and ads, too, which I much prefer over static screens that constantly make you worry about a frozen stream.

At season start, there were those static screens in regional broadcasts, too, but luckily, they ditched them after a couple of months.

I'm also pretty sure I saw a TNT broadcast, or something like that, via NHL.tv this season, that did have intermission content. It might be a goddamn ESPN+ issue.

I'll only be a satisfied paying customer if they show not only intermission content, but also the pregame and postgame coverage. The old version of NHL.tv in previous seasons did include pregames and postgames of Kings games. Now those f***ing morons stopped showing them in the current season.

You should be improving your streaming product from year to year, not deteriorating it, you NHL.tv jerks. :ha:

Is anyone's ESPN+ acting all wonky? I have the picture but the picture quality keeps going from HD to crappy. Also, Whoever invented that Whopper song should be shot out of a cannon.

tried watching Rangers Flyers . Blacked out in Western New York . WHY? Not even close to new york city. Game was supposed to be on TNT.

If the game was on TNT, it isn’t going to be on ESPN+…they expect you to watch on TNT…
