NHL.TV / Center Ice / ESPN+ Discussion - Part IV [See the warning in OP]

I checked out the opening night games using the ESPN player here in Europe (this was through a Philips smart tv with an Android os). The quality was OK, both for the Pit-TB replay and the Sea-VGK which I watched live for a bit. There was no option for home/away feeds though. I couldn't find any option to automatically hide the scores either, but when you select the game you want to watch the scores weren't shown anyway, so I guess that doesn't really matter.

Blackouts in germany, Sky Germany appearently purchased the rights yesterday, showing 300 games. Glad I should still be in the refund timespan.
I was shocked, too.
Last season DAZN/Sport1 had a couple of games, but Sky ruins the NHL for Germany.

Do you have more background to the amount of blackouts?

I'm in the same situation. This sucks big time! I'm still unsure if I should demand a refund.

both games were televised nationally in the U.S so there wouldnt be home-away feeds

So apparently NHL.tv is no longer part of the Viaplay pay-per-view package in Finland. Supposedly it was the NHL's decision to quit it, not Viaplay's. Not sure what the NHL thought was the problem there? It was a fine package while it lasted.

It used to be that you could watch games either from Viaplay's own site or access the NHL.tv streams via Viaplay. The thing with Viaplay is that the games are only accessable for 48 hours after the game. NHL.tv didn't have that restriction.

Seems like many international customers' viewing experience has gotten a lot worse this season. Personally, I'm deeply disappointed.

Hey, if you don’t mind my asking did you receive any notification from NHLTV about the ESPN change or auto renewal? I don’t think I got anything at all from them yet
I did not receive anything from NHL.tv about an auto renewal. However, as a precautionary measure, I sent an email to their customer support to remove my account from auto renewal. I received a confirmation reply a couple of weeks later.

I have fiber optic internet and this game on ESPN+ looks like dogshit. I get better quality running an illegal stream to the tv from hdmi.

Of course, the commercials look just fine.

So much for ESPN’s bigger and better infrastructure.

Not sure what happened there, but I saw the same thing on the ESPN app for an Amazon FireTV Cube. I have access to ESPN as well through my parents' cable subscription, and in the same app I could choose the feed through the TV provider log-in, and that one was perfectly fine.

So there really are blackouts in Germany this year. I was writing an email to support but fortunately decided to check here first. Cancelled my subscription now. Fortunately, it doesn't hurt that much because a) AEW exists, so I there's plenty of stuff to keep me entertained and b) as long as Bednar is coaching the Avs they aren't going anywhere anyway.

The really first experience with watching back last nights games on ESPN Player (not ESPN Plus) was a pretty positive experience. ESPN kept the pre game and intermission reports in and cut out the commercial breaks, apart from the intermissions. The weird part was that they were Australian commercials, where people apparently are very interested in gambling websites.

Also watched In The Crease and that seems to be an allright highlights show. John Tortorella was decent as the guest.

I’ll echo this. I saw people saying the same. I logged into the regular ESPN app with a friends cable provider login. Pulled up the Pit-Tbl game and it looked fine compared to the ESPN+ feed.

Good god I am terribly disappointed with ESPN+

Quality on the samsung app and PS5 are much worse than NHL.tv. Lots of puck trails/ghosting. From what I can tell, if I join a game mid way, I have to mute the tv and close my eyes and hope I don't see the score and have to rewind to beginning. WTF is that. No excuse for it to be this bad. The shitty youtube preseason production was better than this.

Cancelled and got my 7 bucks back. God that's disappointing though.

NHLTV on roku app did some update when I load game 1 and now I constantly get this “no valid bitrates” error every few minutes. Anyone know what’s up with this ?

First period was fine too just started in 2nd. Latency issues with stream ?

Anybody explain to me why when I try to switch feeds, it plays both broadcasts via sound but still show the original home broadcast???

I ended up using my vpn to sign up for nhl.tv for a month. No blackouts, one app to watch everything - the devil you know, I guess. I still can't get over how the NHL doesn't think having a usable, digital platform is important in 2021.

I could do without the constant ads for Far Cry 6. I don't even own an Xbox. The ad has played at least SIXTY times today watching NHL and cricket earlier today.
