a likely Smythe favorite at this point, despite missing the whole season. Will really emphasize the cap shenanigans further.

I think it emphasizes more the level of skill to be able to get up from the couch after an injury and blowing out everyone in the scoring race.

Honestly, I think Montreal coasted and waited in the Canadian division until the other teams they played beat the shit out of each other during the regular season.

How do you tell players that are paid based on their production to coast all season?

Don’t get me wrong, I am rooting for Montreal and enjoyed their playoff run. I just feel like they were kinda there in the Canadian division and let Mcdavid do his thing until the playoffs.

Have to say, will not be pleased to see an old SE division rival get their 3rd Cup when we sit on just one.

Didnt they have a season where they went from Cup contender to super suck because of injuries and got Hedman as a first overall to go with Stamkos? That would be like the Caps getting Kane after getting Ovechkin. They beat the system there just like they beat the salary cap here. Its still amazing to see that the Caps made it back to the cup fight with only 2 or 3 top 5 picks(depending on the season. Ov, Backstrom, Alzner). The Caps were forever screwed by that awful snake draft in the Crosby year. There is no way the Caps should have picked 14th that year. The 5th player picked was Carey Price. Where are the Caps in the best Bruce seasons with Carey Price in the net? Kopitar was taken 11th.

The NHL arbitrarily came up with rules for that draft just to keep the Caps from picking high. It was obvious and such a joke. People who weren't fans before Ovechkin don't know how the Caps were seen by the league. Ted selling off his stars and "tanking" prior to the lockout was controversial and not looked at favorably, and the NHL didn't want to reward him any more.

Other than Jagr who was an epic bust and everybody knew it where any of the stars sold off not in the last year of a contract?

But yea, it was clear what the league was doing. The Caps were league filler. So, Pittsburgh after loading up top 5 picks gets Malkin and Crosby while the Caps get Ovechkin and nothing. I mean from the point the Caps picked the highlight was Martin Hanzal until you get to Oshie at the bottom. I mean, who would you rather build a team around? Malkin or Hanzal?
