Viktor Arvidsson, probably the 2nd best forward drafted by David Poile after Bonzai

'The '98 Red Wings were a behemoth -- Yzerman, Federov and Shanahan all in their top 6. Nobody coming out of the East had a chance.

I dont know. The Caps should have won game 2 in Detroit. Famous Esa Tikkanen gaffe mention placed here. Had they won that game, I am confident that its a different series. That really took the wind out of their sails.

I would disagree. It would have made much more respectable series, but I never had confidence we were playing at the same level.

In 1998, despite Detroit being the much better team, the games were 2-1, 5-4, 2-1 so all 1 goal games until game 4 when the sweep was finished. Hard to say the Caps could have won the series even with a couple breaks (of which they got none) but games 1-3 were all close enough to be watchable, pulling the goalie at the end type of contests.

This finals is just a joke.

The Caps werent playing at the same level the entire playoffs. It was a goalie based playoff run. That game 2 disconnected that hot goalie thing. If the Caps are heading back to DC with a split and a confident team, they are a much bigger threat than a team that just choked away their chance in a most embarrassing fashion. When you are an underdog like they were, you can win, but cant flush game wins down the toilet like that.

Very underwhelming return for Arvidsson. Great deal for the Kings.

I’ve told myself myself that for years, helps with my bitter beer face….but deep down, I know they would have been lucky to win even that 1 game.

Even a scorching hot Olie couldn’t hold the line against those guys. Huge talent disparity.

This. Caps, and especially Olie, played their hearts out, but the Wings skated circles around them every shift. Esa's gaffe ruined the franchise for Finns forever.

Getting a nice little inner chuckle seeing Nate Schmidt likely run out of (edit) Vancouver with that juicy 4 more years @ 5.9 per price tag he’s carrying.

Like him, but so, so overrated.

I think a lot of teams are going to be struggling to handle contracts with the flat cap. Even if they aren't against the cap, it has to mess with their long term plans to be millions below where they thought it would be. Wonder if we might see a run on attempts to restructure.

He was the ID there. Or no? He carried a big load that first season. That he did that without a lot of offense is interesting

Apparently Duncan Keith is on the trading block. 2 more years at 5.5 mill. Who would want to take him on?? 37 years old, can't have much left in the tank.

Oh of course. The Leafs will probably sign him!
