I don't watch the player, but I have yet to see a prospect develop as expected when they produce half the points in their draft +1 when the scouting report was already listing their offense as a weakness.
Unfortunately, this is very true. People are going to come in here and say, "he's coming back from a concussion" and "stats don't tell the whole story", and "he's not drafted for offense, he's drafted for his defense."
BUT...while there is some truth to that, in junior when players grow and develop physically every year and the oldest ones are replaced with the youngest each year, a player should absolutely show clear offensive growth in the game regardless of their play style.
When they don't, they're ALMOST always duds. Even only small offensive growth is a major red flag. Explosive growth is what you would look for from anyone with serious NHL potential.
Look at what players like Josh Nicholls, Joel Champagne, and Andrew Nielsen did in their post draft years in comparison to their draft years? Clearly it's not everything, but it's generally the bare MINIMUM (generally - settle down ACC1234 with the need to disagree just for the sake of disagreeing).
