Washington needs to gin up interest in Dowd and convince a team like Edmonton that two postseasons of the best 4th line center in the NHL is worth a first round pick.
I think his value tops at a second, but I agree.

The Rangers should be another team they should look to as a dance partner for Nic Dowd. Laviolette loves him, their bottom 6 is a mess, and their top 6 could benefit from some easy deployments which Dowd could afford them.

Edmonton and Colorado too, teams that need value contracts for next season. Dowd (and Lindgren) can give you that!

Package them together for 1st and a 2nd

I’m also convinced that Hughes always gets value for mid players like Monahan, Edmundson, and Chiarot because he’s constantly pumping them up in his network of agents and insiders. Then he just lets the media sphere take care of the rest.

Bmac has work to do!

Brilliant by the Habs.

This would fit the re-tool process too now that Backstrom is gone. Take an overpaid cap dump and see if he rebounds.

Not sure why so many posters want to move Lindgren as opposed to Kuemper.

Do we see the return on Lindgren being greater than Kuemper?

Kuemper has the SC pedigree. Lindgren is 3 years younger, shorter contract and much cheaper.

I notice that the majority of your sell off trade ideas are predicated on the idea that we can get everyone else in the league to somehow overpay for our guys..and while it’s fun to think that Dowd, TVR, maybe a Jensen or even Mantha can return a 1st (plus maybe a good prospect)….

What if the actual offers for a Dowd is like a 3rd and a mediocre prospect? Are we making deals just to grab picks and bodies that likely won’t contribute, but will further gut the roster, or do we hold our pieces until it makes more sense?

I suspect Mantha is our most valuable guy, but damn even he’s a very well known commodity. Probably a pure rental for any good team acquiring him due to the unknown of his cost next year and beyond.

I think it would be great if we could get a 2nd+ for TVR and/or Jensen, but the flip side, neither are rentals (2 years left each after this season).

Lindgren is better and cheaper. No one wants 3 years of Kuemper at $5.25

Teams with no cap space and goaltending shitshows should be lining up for Lindgren. Edmonton (although Skinner is good now), Colorado, Toronto, New Jersey could all use a 1b guy like Lindgren.
You would think right? Hell we can fire up the tank without fully gutting the roster if you play DK every night with a smattering of AHL call ups.

I think you'd much rather trade Kuemper and dump all that term if possible, even if the return is worse. I'm not sure how many teams would be prepared to all-in on Lindgren to the extent of giving up a huge return. A second rounder doesn't do much I don't think.

Either way I'm very interested in whether Stevenson gets a shot at some point where in the second half. His play with the Bears is what probably ought to have them at least exploring the idea of making some room.

After watching the fantasy draft and it stupid but I think the avalanche would really want Tom Wilson and that’s why Nate Mac picked him

And I do know they want him insiders from avalanche, but right everyone wants him

lol of course, but he’s the least valuable of the two BY FAR today, IF you can get someone to take him. Would you retain on DK? For a move of him, that almost seems a forgone conclusion because of his erratic play.

I wouldn’t sell them for a 3rd, definitely not. Better off keeping them.

But management needs to call up Friedman at least and get Seravalli to write a piece titled “Nic Dowd and Charlie Lindgren package would be Stanley Cup winning move for these four teams”

I don't even think a late first for Dowd is an overpay, especially for a team like Edmonton. Draisaitl's contract is up after next season. They should be all in now and Dowd is a great player who plays the most in-demand position.

I don't think TVR, Jensen, or Mantha will return a first.

I think Colorado would love to have Wilson as well, but can't imagine they will take on that long new contract of his.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Hope you’re right.

It's a good point that we shouldn't sell off our players for peanuts, especially the ones who have term on their contract. However, I think you may be surprised at what other teams may offer. We could come away with a really nice prospect or pick for a player not in our long-term plans.

I’m all for it if such opportunities are there.

Might be the first time I agree with you. LOL

I don't see anyone offering prices like we see here. I'd love to be wrong. We love Dowd and Lindgren but they aren't just going to return a 1st round pick unless someone is really desperate. If there was a 1st on the table that deal would have been done already.

I agree with you that i'd take 2nd + for one of Jensen/TvR. Perhaps even both. You may not get the price you like but that again opens up cap space for example to pick up a cap dump struggling D you hope will rebound and get an asset for it.

Mantha and Pacioretty should both be gone around the deadline, Max obviously only if he wants to. Pick up whatever you can there.

I'd dangle Kuemper hard too. You might have to take a short-term goalie cap dump back but someone might still want him. Perhaps Devils could send a pick if we took Vanecek back?

Don't undervalue Dowd, Lindgren, TVR, and Jensen. Not only are they ideal candidates for playoff teams to add veteran depth, but they are all signed to very reasonable contracts and wouldn't just be playoff rentals. The cap is going up next season, so there will likely be more teams interested in picking up players that have term left on their contracts.

I wouldn't trade any of those 4 unless we get good value in return. The Caps would struggle to replace them, so any trade that happens would have to bring back decent assets. There are some posters here who want the team to tank so badly that they don't care about getting fair value for our assets.

Patches, Mantha, and Kuemper are complete wild cards when it comes to value. If you can move any of them, I say do it. I really don't think they'll be able to move Kuemper unless another team becomes desparate. I actually wouldn't be too bothered seeing Patches sign for 1 more year at a reasonable price, but if he allows a trade, I would do it. Mantha will likely require us to retain 50% salary, which isn't a problem. No idea what he would bring, get whatever you can, he isn't in the long term plan for the team.

I forsee another package deal happening like with Boston last year. We bundle a couple players together and get a few high draft picks and a prospect.

If we went into the next draft with 2 1sts (including our own at around 8 or 10) and 2 2nds (we don't have one right now) and picked well with them, our cupboard would not be looking that bare any more

maybe we could get a 2nd and a cap dump goalie with less term for DK ... I'd like to see Lindgren and Stevenson as our goalies going into next season

This sexual assault case is really weighing heavily on me. I keep thinking about the Capitals own version of this.

CAPITALS' KYPREOS SAYS HE SAW LIMO INCIDENT
Nick Kypreos, a Washington left wing, told investigators Thursday that he briefly stepped into the limousine but quickly exited when he saw the woman struggling with the other players.

The 17-year-old told police that the four Capitals players participated in raping and sodomizing her inside the limousine parked outside the Champions sports bar early Saturday morning.

In her statement to authorities, she said the four players were Dino Ciccarelli, 30, who plays right wing; Geoff Courtnall, 27, who plays left wing; and defensemen Neil Sheehy, 30, and Scott Stevens, 26.

Ciccarelli, Courtnall and Stevens are all reasonably high up in the Capitals pantheon but the fact that their own teammate says he saw them "struggling" with a 17 year old girl in a limo....

Absolutely disgusting.

I wish media or police or whoever would revisit this.

We dumped maybe the best D in our teams history over this. Steven’s won 3 cup for jersey.
