with max probably getting a $2mil bonus what would Washington pay to get EK off the books before the trade deadline? then the bonus would count this year and not carry over and would give you cap space next year.

Not much. Don't get me wrong I think they'll try to trade him for future considerations, but given the cap rising and Backstrom on LTIR it doesn't seem like they're going to be too tight against the cap, so they won't be desperate to shed his salary.

you cant use LTIR for bonus so that would roll over to next year. If the cap goes up $4 mil $2mil would be for MAX P bonus. thats the one issue.

I was looking at some of the other teams top players and was pretty surprised to see this.

Tampa Bay have 55 points - 5 more than us - but they have played 3 more games. Their goal differential is +5 (not fantastic) but ours is -26.

The alarming part is how their top players are doing compared to ours, who can barely score any goals:

Pretty woeful. I guess the bright side is we are only 5 points back with 3 games in hand. But we're doing it with very boring hockey and above expected goaltending from Lindgren.

I used to be disappointed if Ovie was outside the top 3 in goal scoring for the league. Sad to see he can’t even hang in the top three on the team, who sucks at scoring goals

For some good fun, Rangers fans starting to turn on Laviolette.

Carolina will pass them soon.

Elliot was talking about this this AM, and he figured it was related to the sexual assault charges. Didn't even know about that incident. Just read the allegations and it is horrific what happened. Yikes.

Something is really wrong with Ovi. He scored 42 last year, in 73 games, a .57 GPG rate. He's at .19 GPG this year, on pace for 15 or 16 maybe. This isn't just age catching up with him. Something is finally broken.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see him hang them up playing like this, if not for the $20 mil owed him the next 2 years. If this has anything to do with his preparation and not just age finally catching him, he’ll regret throwing away this season.

Not age bashing. My argument is for Sprong. He produces goals and his defensive game is lacking.
so why mention Ovechkin? You can’t make a case for Sprong without it?

quotes in the article tell you exactly why Sprong bounces around, one night he’s a beast, the next not good.

Does no one in the east wild card race win anymore? It seems like even when the caps lose they still easily in the race

Completely bizarre to me that starting tomorrow, the NHL will have a total of only 6 games over 3 days through Wednesday night, and then shut down completely during the slowest week in sports (the off-week between the AFC and NFC championship games and the Super Bowl) so that it can showcase what has become a pathetic and unwatchable all-star “game”.

This is a week where the NHL could fill the sports void by featuring great matchups every night, and they decide instead to feature a lifeless and contrived spectacle of which the best thing can be said is that it is utterly and completely not hockey. Genius at work

The bye week was required by the players. It's best to use it during all star week also instead of having a week off earlier in year

The NHL has been behind in its marketing for decades.
