Me neither - but Cousins should have been thrown out of the game for that hit. Right in the back of the numbers while Gudbranson is totally in a vulnerable position a couple of feet from the boards. You don't want to get attacked by Gudbranson because you're too small - don't make such a dirty hit. Panthers rep for stirring shit and then hiding behind the refs also doesn't help Cousins here.
I’m all for folks standing up against cheap shots and stick infractions. Sandstrom was bad about stick infractions until Muni woke him up. I have to remind myself what I would do in an intense sport full of speed, physicality, and emotion. In a sport with sticks, skates, and bone jarring hits the tempers can flare easily, although not so much as the past. It’s quite amazing the self control a lot of players have with so many hazards.

Ok, who here attended the game Carpenter played in DC in his first game as a King? I want to know more of why Tiger Williams was going after a fan and if you knew the folks jeering Carpenter to provoke Williams, lol. I didn’t get to see that game then. Also, I loved HTS.

RH, I know you probably attended that game and looking at you, lol.

That rings a bell. But maybe I watched it on TV. It all blurs together. What year was that?

March 17 1987. It was a HTS broadcast and the game is on YT. I didn’t get to see that one. Oh I was thinking you, Cappy, Chokingdogs, or Cappy might be in attendance lol. HTS regularly had open satellite games then and I some how missed it.

ROFL, the fans were brutal in Carpenter’s return.

In attendance!? I was 2 lol

While I do appreciate the old school game and players that was probably before my time.

Lol, I was almost 12. Used to drive my folks crazy asking to watch games. Watched a ton of CBC broadcasts and open team feeds then.
Thanks for making me feel old, guys. I was almost 15 then. And I do remember the crowd giving Carpenter a raft of shit. But I don't recall whether I was there or watching on TV. Honestly, I was probably at home... school night and all.

Also Cappy, being 2 is no excuse. I started going to Caps games at that age. And that was before they put earmuffs on kids. Of course it was also before they had a sound system. LOL!

I was not there, lol. Coulda been tho, most likely I was at home watching….school night and all. I actually have very little, to no memory, of that game.

Just watched a YouTube about that game, caps kings rough stuff, or something similar. I was dying, Fornes had ditched his Frankenstein hair style by then and bore a strange, and slightly nauseating, resemblance to Makfi. Smokin Al?! Holy shit, I must have mentally blocked him from then, he was Ron Jeremy’s brother from another mother.

As for highlights of play, pretty much every part of the game shown….at least 5 penalties, in this era. Back then, they just played. It’s incredible, the difference in what’s called.

I think this was even a year or so before I consider my true hockey/caps origin story though I know even before I did keep up on all local sports looking at the box scores in the WaPo hard copy days even then. Junior year at Madison HS on that date. Home of the WARHAWKS.

Old? I was almost 18. So, sigh —

I didn’t make it that game, was a senior at boarding school in Delaware.

Please don’t tell me i am the oldest one here. I was in my freshman year of college. But i had been to many games in Landover (grew up in Reston).

I also remember watching Caps on Channel 20 which was a weird channel on my dial TV.

To me, he looks like Phil Kessel. The best part of the game was Fornes and Koken talking about a certain section taking pleasure in jeering Carpenter. My first guess RH was in it that section. I missed a few games myself due to school nights, although I did sneak a few on TV, lol.
