The concept of the Cup being won in a 5000 seat arena, and the the Cup celebration happening in this locker room is amusing me greatly.

How long are they locked into that arena? Is it only a year or two? If so, I don’t think they’ll have to worry about the Stanley Cup being awarded in that arena.

Honestly have no clue. But there's a part of me that's actively looking for an excuse to travel to Arizona to see a game there before they leave.
One of my best friends from high school lives in Tempe. Been there a few times to visit him and for a wedding. Maybe I’ll get out there to see him again and schedule it around the Caps playing the Coyotes. I do wonder though how hard it is for visiting fans to get tickets with the 5,000 fan capacity limit.

Cheapest pair of tickets for the Jan8 Penguins game on Stubhub are $168ea before fees. Not outrageous considering everything is the equivalent of the lower bowl there, but also not super cheap either. I love getting me some $30 standing room tickets here in Philly.

Just send Arizona to Quebec City and call it a day. I always felt bad for those loyal Nordiques fans who watched their young guns win in Colorado. I was a big old Jets fan before the move to Arizona, so no love there.

I remember he had some issues that put him away from the game for a bit but this is surprising. He is so talented when he has his head on straight. He scored like 4 goals in a game with the Wings.

His trade was very unpopular here and people were triggered. Mantha has been fine for us, so I wouldn't object to bringing him back.

I can only suspect that him being on waivers is because of the off-ice issues he’s been dealing with. That would suck.

Hard to comment on whether Washington should put in a claim without knowing why he’s on waivers.

Ignoring that there's something obviously up with Vrana and ignoring that there's probably no way to fit him in with the cap, he was traded because Lavi refused to use him and they were trying to find someone he would use. I don't see any reason that'd change now; there's basically no world where they claim him sadly.

Just a reminder that the Player Assistance Program is not just about substance abuse. While substance abuse is the most common reason players are "forced" to go into it, there are a variety of other reasons a player may enroll in the program. At this point, we still have zero information as to why Vrana was in the NHLPA PAP.

We need a reporter to shed some light here. With him getting waived, it's gone beyond just curiosity into actual roster changes.

Agree with this. Something has gone seriously wrong with Jake, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes completely unclaimed.

I hope whatever it is, he gets help.

Never will forget the massive game 5 goals he scored (Pitt and Vegas).

That's wild, no? Wasn't he just about back?

Mantha has been fine for us? Really?

Looks like only about a half dozen teams can afford to take the contract, though some teams in LTIR at least theoretically could. Most would likely rather keep space free for their returning players (Pacioretty & Landeskog to name a few).

Minnesota still hasn't replaced Fiala so they make a lot of sense. Buffalo is trying to turn it around and has space. Most of the other floundering type teams you'd think would be wary of the question marks involved and may prefer to tank.

He’s been on a conditioning stint in the AHL and the Red Wings announced a few days ago they were extending it to the maximum 2 weeks. My guess is he doesn’t look NHL ready, having been on the shelf all that time, and they feel he needs more conditioning time to get up to game speed. Unlike a player coming off LTIR, who only leaves LTIR when they’re fit to play, I believe Vrana has been off the ice throughout his time in the Assistance program and 2 weeks really isn’t long enough.

My bet is other teams won’t claim him because they recognise this is about doing right by the player.

If you have any thoughts towards the NHL “placing” these players in key markets, to help the overall “health” of the league, then Bedard goes to Chicago or Philadelphia.

Do you really believe that?

If it’s what we may suspect is going on - I hope for Jake’s sake that this is more of a wake up call, versus the start of a spiral.

I don’t want to irresponsibly speculate - just know that this can be a very dark place, and I hope he’s taking care of himself.

I really have to wonder how much GMBM knew about Vrana...
Good question. One we’ll never know the answer to though. And maybe the issues ensued after his shoulder injury. But bottom line, Lavi didn’t think he fit and moved him. Looks like the right move.

Oh, and while Mantha hasn’t been a star he has been fine. Just overpaid for what he brings but a good player none the less.
