Pittsburgh blew a 4-0 lead in the first to lose 5-4 in OT at home to Detroit. Hate to see it.
Other lines carried them to a 4-0 lead and then their veteran top-line quit playing and bled goals against. Crosby and Guentzel combined 0 points and -6.

Red Wings are right in the Playoff hunt too. Those points could prove valuable.

The only play I noticed him in was during the third period when Joe B said his name and I realized I thought he was injured and out the entire game.

Lafreniere is going to become a great two way top 6 player, a more skilled Lars Eller is his floor imho. Im not sure he's available but if he is the Caps should absolutely go for him.
He has the tools but he seems to be lost. Three years in and he has no identity as a player. He’s not overly physical, he hasn’t shown the kind of skill and finish he showed in juniors, he’s not very strong defensively, he doesn’t get to the crease in the offensive zone despite being in the mold of a power forward. When you watch the Rangers play he’s not a noticeable player.

In related news, the Rangers are terrible at developing players. If they weren’t in New York City and couldn’t use their location to attract players they’d be awful. When was the last time the Rangers really developed a good player? Chytil (2017) is getting there and he’s probably their best example besides Shesterkin (2014). Schneider, Kakko, and K’Andre Miller are developing but not the difference makers (yet) that they thought they were drafting. Chris Kreider in 2009 is probably their last real homegrown skater that they’ve developed. Buchnevich, Duclair, Lundkvist, Brady Skjei, and JT Miller all played or are playing their best hockey away from New York. They’ve had some massive busts like Lias Andersson, Vitali Kravtsov, and Dylan McIlrath.

Panarin and Fox are their best players and they came because the team is in NYC. Zibanejad came via trade. Trouba stinks but he wanted to be in NYC for his wife’s career. They’re just not a strong organization at developing young players.

Yeah i agree with most of this, he does seem lost. I think he's kind of stuck behind a lot of guys on the Rags. He's still just 21 years old though and with a ridiculously high pedigree and performance in juniors. I think he could be a great steal for a team that has a place for him to play his game, which i think the Caps will have given he can play both wing and center. Would easily pay a pretty high price for him, like McMichael and a second rounder.

Someone should definitely go for him, and in a vacuum he could fit a long-term need for the Capitals. But with how Laviolette handles young forward development, I don't see this as an ideal landing space to unlock Lafreniere's potential.

True enough i guess. But given his reputation qs defensively responsible Lavi should be a bit more allowing.....maybe?

To be fair, if you're going to hold the fact that guys like JT Miller and Duclair elevated their game after leaving NY, then they should get similar credit for Zibanejad elevating his game once he arrived in NY.

I don't disagree with your broader assessment. Hard to see so many quality prospects wilting on the vine with the Rangers.

The penguins board is hilarious. “All ovechkin does is float around and shoot, he doesn’t do anything else” He has 5 less assists than Crosby so far this year
Let them be. They’re jealous that Ovi is doing something that no Penguins superstar managed to do - be better than Gretzky at something.

They’ve had nothing to cheer for since 2017. The Penguins have been just like the Caps if not worse. Bounced in the 1st round every year since 2018, including the bubble where they failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Florida NGMI. Down to the eighth-worst record in the league and they don't have their first rounder. Rough.

If you told me the current eight in the East that are in today are who will make it I'd believe it. NYI/DET have fallen off. BUF are trending up but it's likely too steep a climb.
