As a kid one of the first issues of Sports Illustrated I got with my subscription had Guy Lafleur on the cover, his flo waving as he skated so fast in the image. I was always a fan of his after reading that article. 1977 it was. Found the image. RIP Flower, a great one for sure.

I had totally forgotten it was a Cap in the background... anyone know who that was?

I remember that issue. Was too young to care about team allegiances so liked the local boys plus the ones that got all the attention/merch which meant Flyers and Habs in those days.

Note the MTL player in the background just coasting. "Yeah I'm not getting that puck back". lol

Here are the likely culprits for the Cap cameo based on partial jersey number:

IMO could either be Brian Kinsella or Bryan Watson. Some kind of Brian.

My God these orange Edmonton jerseys remain an abomination. They should have some sort of immolation ceremony if they want to go anywhere in the playoffs

Kaprizov came to Minnesota and turned once a shitty team nobody cares about to a contender team faster than anyone could have predicted. Dude is a beast! Best russian in hockey today easily.

Yeah he is a fantastic player. Not bad for a 5th round pick!

Vrana and the Wings trying their best to beat the Pens. But the Pens just got a goal allowed after review, even though it went in after the whistle - must be nice to win a review. Awesome job guys.

And their Rakell pickup keeps paying off. They own the tie breaker, so we aren’t catching these guys.

Maybe we catch them, maybe we don't, it's hardly settled; RW is the 1st tiebreaker
many scenarios where the Caps take 3rd (or WC1)

Metro GP W L OT PTS RW ROW
3 PIT 79 45 23 11 101 36 42
Wild Card
1 BOS 77 47 25 5 99 36 45
2 WSH 78 44 23 11 99 35 39

None of it really matters. The top 8 teams are legit top 8, if there ever was a year for it —
It’s now.

Canes, Rags, Panthers. Gonna have to play well and take one of the or the first 2 roadies. If they can, long series. If not? Done in 5.

But I wouldn’t be cocky we’re I a fan of those 3 teams, needing to play Wash, Boston, Pitt in round 1.

Yikes.

Yea, if you think the Pens will lose to the Flyers tomorrow, or CBus later - then maybe we have a chance.

Boston has a tougher schedule, but we still have to deal with the Leafs, Isles x 2, and Rangers. If we can win miraculously go 3-1 then yea we have a chance, but not holding my breath.

Plus I’m not sure Lavi and co. see any urgency - last couple games seem to be practicing random stuff on the PP, etc…

Anyways, I’m rooting for CAR to win the division, so the Pens have to play Shesterkin, and if we can jump Boston, I’ll take an injured CAR over the Panthers.

Well I'm not predicting anything, but with 3/4/5 gms left for everyone, anyone can go on a winning or losing streak over that small span

Plus who knows which teams start resting players, which eliminated teams play spoiler, etc...

Kucherov is still the guy in my opinion until proven otherwise. He missed the entire season and came back like nothing happened, destroying everything in his path in the playoffs. Led the league in playoff scoring in two consecutive years, and he has a 128 point season under his belt + all the awards that came with it.

And nobody would blame you. I just think that Tampa as a team has been so much better, and the players Kucherov has been playing with are on another level compared what Kaprizov has been working with these past 2 years and still putting these numbers is just nuts.

Per Hockeyviz, Washington only has a 9% chance of facing Carolina in the first round. But for whoever ends up facing Carolina that could be an upset in the making if Andersen and Raanta are both unavailable.

And whomever faces Florida in the first round has an 80% chance of getting their a*s kicked.

Flyers up 2-0 on the Penguins on the third period. If this result holds Washington has an opening for the 3 seed in the Metro.
