RIP Mike Bossy. As pure a goal-scorer as the game will ever see and just a class guy. A great hockey analyst as well, post-NHL. Also, a deeply principled guy who thrived in an era of goon tactics, notwithstanding his refusal to participate. Good piece on that here:

Sucks. Even adjusted for the era, he was one of the all time greatest. 9x50 goals, we see first hand just how hard that is. As of right now only him and Wayne, although we hope Ovi joins them soon. I hated the Islanders as a Caps fan in the 80s, but never felt any hatred for Bossy himself. And yes, f*** cancer!

Defense and goaltending seems to be subpar across the leave this year.

I'm looking at the east and I am not sure who the favorite is. Feel like when it's said and done it's gonna be TB again. Carolina has not looked that great recently and Anderson got injured last night. Florida has suspect D and tending.

This is why I haven't totally flipped my shit about goaltending, though it could be better. Half the league is over 3.00 goals per game. In a tight year maybe that's 1/3 of the league. The best team GAA is CAR at 2.43. The best and worst marks are both up almost half a goal over last year.

We can't expect 1-0 and 2-1 wins every night. Not this season.

That said, any team that can find an edge on team defense or a super hot goalie could go far.

Of all the teams in the East, TB was the only one I really don’t want to play. Everybody else has a potentially exploitable weakness or two - like us (though we seem to have 3 or 4) - except maybe the Canes, but we’ve played them well

Was watching the Seattle / Devils game last night. Very entertaining for two teams not in the playoff hunt. Sprong was getting mad minutes including at least two shifts (including the last one). And then he was third in the shootout. I was rooting for him. Like to see him do well.

There's a 7+ goal blowout just about every night this year. What a crazy year.

Scoring going up league wide is really good for Ovechkin. If scoring was like 2014 levels, 895 would be in doubt.
