NHL brass knew this in his draft year and they will take talent no matter what, especially struggling teams. Crazy he starts an altercation with teammate and that will obviously get you on a do not touch list. Every team has their share of people like DeAngelo at some point and yes even the Caps. I remember the cab incident because it set us back for years. Some team is going to make room for him because they want talent and don't care about the antics.

This shortened season and only playing 7 teams is going to get old really fast, methinks. Especially outside of our division - I keep looking at box scores and thinking "didn't these two teams just play each other 3 or 4 times in a row??"

I also think there are going to be WAY too many loser points handed out because of OT and SO's.

Obviously hockey is better than no hockey but this is definitely NHL Lite.

I think McD is gonna shatter the points per game record for this era. Canadian division defense is terrible. Hes also facing Ottawa 10 times. Anything less than 2 points a game versus the Sens I'll consider a disappointment.

I think he meant the Sens' cab incident. But the Caps' cab incident was worse and hurt them badly for years. Broke my heart, TBH.

He's already got the highest PPG among active players - going into this season 1.336 vs Crosby with 1.284. Only going to improve on that this season, like you say.

18 for Draisaitl.

Hard to see them not adding to those totals with two periods left to go.​
 
I think this game might convince Ottawa to claim DeAngelo lol. They need some talent, real bad. Even if DeAngelo isn't a great defender. They need a shakeup.

But it's not like DeAngelo is cheap - it's a 4.8 mill cap hit for 2 years. The problem isn't a lack of talent in Ottawa. I think it's a combination of youth, over the hill veterans, coaching, and very likely a general feeling of "we suck and our boss Melnyk is an arsehole"....

They seem to have a pretty decent group of forwards, but they also have Stepan (likely past it) and Galchenyuk (waste of time and money). Their defence doesn't need offence (DeAngelo). It needs to be able to DEFEND

Anyway, that's my 5 minute amateur analysis :laugh:
 
McDavid on that division is like playing NHL Be a Pro on the easiest level. Canadian teams just have no clue how to build an NHL-level defense.

Also re: DeAngelo it's different when drafting a 17-year old versus him @ 25. Yes i'm sure some GM's who are desperate enough are willing to take a shot even if you are a asshole but most won't because a guy like that can shatter the chemistry inside the team. Where as when you draft a 17-year old there is still hope he's just going through a phase and there are still hope that maturity helps in that regard. If you are an asshole still at 25, that's likely not going to change. But i know lots of people who were assholes when they were kids but aren't anymore. Besides when you are talking about a 18-year old kid if he doesn't behave you can always send him back to Juniors or AHL/ECHL. I don't think anyone is willing to risk that with DeAngelo because of his huge cap hit.

But we'll see. It would be hilarious if nobody claimed him though. Would that force Rangers to buy him out and get yet another buy-out. :laugh:
