Plenty of Amish and Mennonites around my area of western Pennsylvania and I've never heard either of those used as insults lol.

Such a bizarre situation. But rules is rules. Kind of hilarious that he said that he didn't know what Mennonite meant though.

I used to work with a guy who left an Amish community and we would make jokes about him being Amish, but he would also make fun of the Amish so maybe his lack of offense isn't too indicative of anything. 🤷‍♂️

Yup, I started at the 1st separation,

It gets crazy after the reformation
The really fun part is during the post-revolution frontier days when conmen would ride around pretending to be preachers, preying on uneducated folks, and establishing denominations that are still around.

Think I am going to go look at Judaism and Islam to see if they also have the same variety of denominations, looks like Judaism has 3 but Islam has way more than I thought

Closer to Amish than Catholic. Maybe the guy had a beard or something.

Dude didn’t even know what it meant apparently so maybe this is a good life lesson that you shouldn’t just go around yelling something because it sounded funny on letterkenny.
That's just a small population of them that are closer to Amish

Youre from Vancouver no? There's a tonne of them in the Fraser Valley

And to answer @MXD , you're sort of correct. People associate them with the Amish, but that's basically Pennsylvania haha. They're a branch of the anabaptist movement, fantastic farmers
And f*** can they run.

I might be a bit thick but I find it amusing that he got suspended for multiple games for a word that is seeminly no issue to be put into a headline with no censorship whatsoever.
Suspended for something that is literally spelled out letter by letter in a report about the suspension.

I’m pretty liberal and such but this is insane.
Could not agree more, this is ridiculous, the OHL has always lead the way in that regard though, going back to the Dave Branch days. We're living in a world full of people with tissue paper feelings who are actively looking for things to be offended by, it's pathetic and frustrating

The problem everybody has with this type of sensitivity, is the lack of consistency, which translates to lack of authenticity.

But when the authorities do turn up the consistency, well now nobody can speak at all. And we get news like this example.

Take for another example, if it became punishable to suggest someone was ugly. This would create consistency in the law, because ugly people are the most poorly treated group in the world, and they are of every race. It's poor taste to call someone ugly, but should it be punishable by law? What defines a punishable* insult?

My initial gut reaction was to think that this was stupid, but then again this probably falls under the purview of not wanting to use religious or ethnic terms of any kind as a term of disparagement. So I guess I kind of understand drawing the line at the ridiculous to serve as a bulwark against actual heinous ****.

That being said, 5 games even as a blanket catch all seems ridiculous for this, but ridiculously light for a major slur.
