No it would not be a way bigger deal. A slur is a slur regardless of what type of person it is meant for. You don’t get to pick and choose who gets to be more offended.
Cop out. Theres no difference between “Mennonite” and “n-word”?? You’ve completely lost your mind just to stick to your terrible argument.

Canadians are generally more extreme with their speech-censorship laws and general attitude towards this sort of thing from what I’ve come to understand.
People from whatever country you hail from have a hard time understanding relatively simple concepts, is what I’ve come to understand

They’re all fair game. Why are religious chirps such a travesty? Again, what was the harm done to this player?
So here is the root. Because you have zero use for religion you feel they should be fair game for slurs. Despite what the majority of the world's population believes, you expect a hockey league in a country you do not live in, to live by your rules.

EVERYONE should be respected, not just the people any single one of us decides to respect.

Still makes a complete mockery of the game to suspend a kid for 5 games for silly words that no one would be insulted by, gimme a break
Hang on. Plenty of things have already made a mockery of the game well before this. You're giving this one suspension way too much importance.

I've had people insisting that calling someone was a Canuck (or Canuke) was an insult. And she should know because she was from Boston. Straight to my face even. Not the only person.

A lot of yall are making this out to be a microcosm of some societal or political ills you perceive when it's really just HR shit.

I agree that plenty of things have made a mockery of the game before this, yes. Agree to disagree on your other point
