If p***y and Mennonite are suspension worthy how are there not suspensions five times a game?

Guess you gotta get real personal nowadays. Find out they have an absent father or something and really dig into that. Imply they have a learning disability. Just relentlessly point out a scar they have visible.
I used to have season tickets to the Kitchener Rangers, and they tossed around the fa**ot word like crazy. To me that's way way worse than p***y or menonite

Ya those are really some of the most tame insults you can come up with. Your mother's a whore is even better

Mennonites are trying to figure out what’s more insulting — Sim saying this, or the league deciding it was a slur.

I'm pretty sure the league drew a line in the sand, specifically to not have to ask itself that question. 5 games for everyone.

As I said earlier : Call the guy a "Soft-Brained Donkey". That's both perfectly in the rules and definitely more insulting than "Mennonite".

Aren't all brains soft though? #JusticeForBrains #NeuronEquality #DontMisspellBrian

It's like the difference between calling someone a Jew using a normal voice versus saying it like Eric Cartman, I guess.

Umm, junior hockey definitely needs a day of reckoning and to work on the bullying and misogyny from its players.

With this suspension they're focusing on the wrong things.

Also is it confirmed he said Mennonite? That's one of the weirdest chirps I've ever heard.

I'm done with language policing, especially when whats acceptable and what isn't don't make sense

Honestly, I'm kind of suspicious of this from the start. Mostly because, when you see "suspended 5 games for calling someone a 'Mennonite'", what's the first thing that likely comes to your mind? "Dude, WTF" or something similar. A very base emotional reaction. And base emotional reactions are how attention peddlers get you:

I'll repeat myself, but this seems to be a case of "Let's draw a line in the sand and apply a blanket ban for everything that falls under ethnic origins or religious creed or sexual orientation".

What I wonder is : Sim could've shouted something like "Pass to the Mennonnite", referring to his teammate, in a way so the other team can't easily guess who he is talking about.

What he actually said was "Man, it's night!", in reference to how he was too tired to engage in wordplay with his opponent.

I don't get the insult context here. If he's a Mennonite, not an insult. If he's not, is this really insulting? Out of control behavior attempting to control people. Just sad.

Just because a rule is stupid doesn’t mean they get a pass on enforcing said stupid rule

I didn't know about his previous suspension, but knowing that, this seems all the more likely.
IMO the rules may need someone outside their bubble to reevaluate the current rule set and add some more common sense

I get the feeling the issue is that Sim thought it was an insult. So the fact its not at all insulting is moot.

Pointing out somebody is a Mennonite isn't an issue. Using Mennonite as an insult is. This isn't difficult.

yeah thats what the article said
it says used as an insult, and that distinction needs to be made.
which means you know there was a word in front of that

What was the intent then?

Soft or not soft, If he used the term without understanding it, what was the intent of using the term?
Did he know or hear about the player and mennonite from somebody else?
Did he use the term thinking it meant something else and tried to insult the player? If so, what insult did he really think he meant? Maybe it's worse than what was actually said.

Obviously he said it like a dickhead and only a brian dead moron would think otherwise....

That being said I will laugh my ass off at some point in the future when somebody calls a guy atheist and gets suspended.
