The Methgators are going as old school as possible with our next player pick. From the Montreal Hockey Club (yes that was the team’s actual name) of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada, we are actually pretty damn proud to select Billy Barlow.

Here’s a bit of background on Mr. Barlow:
William McKenzie Barlow (November 2, 1870 – February 14, 1963) was a Canadian amateur ice hockey player in the late 19th century. He played for the Montreal Hockey Club, champions of the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (AHAC) from 1888 to 1897, and first winners of the Stanley Cup in 1893. Barlow is credited with scoring the first Stanley Cup-winning goal in history in the final playoff match of 1894.

Now back then, hockey was played with 6 skaters and a goalie. Besides the usual 5 positions, the other position, the one played by Billy, was that of “Rover”. No, it actually has nothing to do with that crotch sniffing piece of crap Kevin Hayes, a rover was basically an offensive defenseman and they were usually the best skaters on their teams.

Therefore we will pair Barlow on D with old flush toilet himself, Flash Hollett.

Interesting note: After scoring the Cup winning goal in 1894, the club presented Barlow with a commemorative ring. This ring, the first Stanley Cup ring in history, is on display in the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

@BernieParent , you are up my good man.

No one has terrible music taste. I hate that shit. If you can't find something from a genre you like, it only says something about you. For the record, I've never heard a Dierks Bentley song in my life. The name is just memorable.

Chris Stapleton is good. I have some of his stuff floating around. Sean Rowe too. Lucero is excellent. John Moreland. Sierra Ferrell. Shovels and Rope. It's probably more alt country for me I guess you would call it?

Got a few lurking moments in today. Not well known out of his tracks, but a good one - especially once picks up a bit of momentum.

"The Tampa Bay FireSticks complete their legendary 3rd line with the selection for right wing of one of another of the earliest First Nations NHLers, George "Chief" Armstrong.

iu

"In his 21 seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs, including 12 as captain, Mr. Armstrong scored 296 goals and added 417 assists, as well as 26 goals and 34 assists in 110 playoff games. He led the Leafs to 4 Stanley Cups (no, really!), appeared in 7 All-Star games, and was also the first recipient (1969) of the Charlie Conacher Humanitarian Award for "outstanding contribution to humanitarian or community service projects." As a proud First Nations member, Mr. Armstrong supported programs organized by both the federal government Indian and Northern Affairs department and non-governmental agencies that aimed to promote positive role models for Native children.

"After his retirement in 1971, Mr. Armstrong remained in the Maple Leafs organization as head coach of the affiliate Toronto Marlboros, and then returned after a falling out with the organization to become the Leafs' assistant general manager, (briefly) head coach, and a scout. Mr. Armstrong was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1975 and his number was retired by the Leafs in 2016. He passed away from lung cancer on January 24 of this year."

To the Field of Strawberries.
