You're also not up yet. There's like 7 or 8 people in front of you, a few of whom are not exactly known for the promptness of their selections.

Well now I am ready.

So, we're back in the land of bad tattoos but there seems to be a lot fewer than usual at the moment. Maybe everyone is going to show up this weekend? Anyway, the big body art craze among the ladies right now seems to be words, phrases, sentences - usually in a handsome cursive script - with some key motto by which to live their lives. I ain't reading all of that, but it's much better than looking at hundreds of poorly drawn dream catchers.

Also, adventures in watching French TV.

The boys and I had Gulli on in the background a few nights ago as we were each on our various devices. Gulli is a channel roughly analogous to Nickelodeon. It show nothing but kids programming all day long but later at night it goes a little more adolescent, except in France adolescent apparently means nearly full frontal nudity in 80's sex romps. Luckily, both boys were completely oblivious and I changed the channel before either of them could register that there was a naked couple on screen getting it on. Not that it would have mattered all that much, being half-French they have already seen and know plenty, including dozens of topless women on the beach every day with really bad tattoos.

Be on the look out for heartbeat with a word or phrase tossed into it.

My sincerest apologies, all. Had an incredibly hectic and stressful day yesterday where I was basically forced to make a big medical decision on the spot late yesterday afternoon and spent the rest of the day bellyaching about it. So I popped into some threads to leave likes but didn't have the brainpower to come in here and make a pick. Which is kinda silly, because @BernieParent kindly teed one up for me via message. I'd like to stress that this was all Bern's idea and he graciously allowed me to pick it for myself.

@Chuck Downie is up, unless of course we've rightfully moved on with the draft.

Some picks are just too perfect for specific posters. I hope all goes well with your health situation, Strawberry.

Thanks, Bern. Urology says they can get me in to have my stone removed next Thursday, and if not then, they can't fit me in until September. I really want to move on from this but having never had any sort of surgical procedure done before, I'm also terrified of the idea (and of the post op period with the stent). But I'm starting to think it has to be done in order to move on

I already failed to avoid Brad Gilbert today. So that's smelly.

We start this smelly day with @Chuck Downie on the clock, me on deck, @Asnito on the lido deck, and @mja on the lido afterdeck.

Starberry, I hope everything is well. I think I gave myself food poisoning the other day somehow. Maybe it was bacteria on one of the f***ing eggs, I don't know. Had a pretty miserable day yesterday, but hopefully it has mostly f***ed off. Ugh.

We all know that the gritty c***s in the gritty c*** sport of hockey overrate intangibles, and leadership in particular. It does matter, but not to the extent these dinosaurs make out. It's not really that much different in real life a lot of the time, except that we tend to keep it in better perspective. And yet sometimes, specifically in moments of crisis, it can make all the difference in the world.

I watched "Rocky IV" two or three times yesterday (in the background). I still want to dance like Apollo Creed.

We start the day with @Asnito on the clock, @mja on deck, @Rebels57 on the lido deck, and Milord's idiot ass on the lido idiot deck.

Ugh, I just checked, and that Hall of Fame game - which is typically considered the time we start obsessing over football for the rest of the year - isn't until August 3. I was motivated to check on that because the ladies' semifinal went all wrong, and I couldn't give a f*** what happens at Wimbledon today. Not that it matters. I still feel pretty gross, so even Maria's glorious moaning wouldn't do much for me today.

It's the weekend, and you know what that means.

What it means is that we start the day with @Rebels57's catatonic ass on the clock. I don't know how this keeps happening, but we probably deserve it. @Lord Defect is on deck, and no one deserves that. @Beef Invictus is on the lido deck, and MacGruber is on the lido afterdeck.

I have gone on about how flawless "Shoplifters" (2018) is, but that's only because it is undeniably true. Its director, Hirokazu Kore-eda, isn't a flawless auteur - like a lot of prolific directors, he can drop some duds. In general, his movies don't come from "big ideas," and those slice-of-life works don't always reach me. But when he gets it right, he gets to me so deep (phrasing).

Last night I watched his film "Broker" from last year. F***'s sake, man. It wasn't as good as "Shoplifters" (hardly anything is), and it didn't quite bring the waterworks, but it is a hell of an affecting film. It's about a couple of guys who have a basket at a church where mothers can drop off their unwanted babies - the pair then find a suitable home from couples who want to adopt but for some reason can't. They take a sizeable fee, but they do right by the infants. One of the guys grew up in an orphanage, and the other (played by Song Kang-ho in his usual perfection) is estranged from his own young daughter and his ex-wife. A young mother drops off a baby, but comes back to make sure he finds a good home. She is played by the pop star IU, who is gorgeous and did a phenomenal job in (I think) her first big role. There are cops on their tail.

I don't want to give any more away, but I saw it compared to "Little Miss Sunshine," and that isn't inaccurate in some ways. It's just really f***ing good. If you have any sort of stomach for quality humanism, it's a can't-miss. It's on Hulu too, so easy to get to.
