The Cellar

My favorite college bar. This was the place where positive people of great culture went. They had the best overall beer selection. They had the best overall shooters. They made the best chocolate cake shooters, which are the best shooter to have in general. Sunday through Thursday, they had a thing called Hammer Time from 6-7. When I was there, Hammer Time was $5 pitchers of anything. Nicest beer? Get a bucket of it for five bucks. It was only an hour, so it was always an hourlong sprint to see how many pitchers one could guzzle in an hour. Great bar food. The upstairs area had Bluegrass Night every Thursday night with live music. The upstairs was actually quite nice, but I was born to drink in the dark dive-bar basement.

They had a constant deal: "We'll Give You The Schlitz." Cans of Schlitz for 1 dollar.

The Eagle and Child
Owned by the Ellison Institute of Technology, the Eagle and Child had been part of an endowment belonging to University College since the 17th Century. Most notably, it serves as the gathering spot for the Inklings, an Oxford writers' group which included C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Charles Williams, Owen Barfield, and Hugo Dyson.
