@Striiker should be in a good mood after Dortmund's win today.
Just saw this again and it reminded me of something that made me angry today.

During the game the commentator said that classic cliche “It doesn’t matter if you win 6-0 or 1-0, they all count the same” when the score was 0-0 and they were discussing how the last time Dortmund played Wolfsburg we won 6-0 and the time before that it was 6-1.

Normally that wouldn’t be noteworthy, but he said this shit while working a Dortmund game mere months after they finished the season with the same amount of points as Bayern, more wins than Bayern, but lost the league because they had a worse goal differential.

SO NOPE. WRONG. THEY DONT COUNT THE SAME.

Full day of sports today. I may not get up from my chair once other than to eat and use the bathroom.

We start the day with @Chuck Downie still on the clock, @JojoTheWhale on deck, @Beef Invictus on the lido deck, and Striiker on the lido afterdeck.

Yesterday I discovered that "The Batman" was on Amazon Prime, so I watched that last night. I'll say this for it - whatever you think of the way it approached the character, it was a well-made film by a director with a clear and consistent vision that he executed. I'm not sure how much I like that approach, but I almost always have time for films that are well-made. I prefer the serious tone of DC stories to the constant forced humor you see in Marvel. I just don't know, in this case, if they sacrificed some excitement in order to keep everything so deep in shadow. At some point, as each successive director thinks "No, Batman needs to be darker," maybe three iterations down the line, we are going to get a completely black screen with voiceovers playing the dialogue and sound effects. Still, it was a good movie.

And Zoe Kravitz? Somewhere in the Multiverse, she is my daughter, because her mother clearly belonged with me - everyone knows that. But because that bastard shit musician got in the way, and she isn't actually my daughter, I think it is OK for me to simp on and/or over her.

The scene early on where he slowly emerges from the shadows like a monster to kick the shit out of that gang in the subway is one of the best in any Batman movie. Overall I really liked it. Its basically the Se7en of superhero movie. Still though, im on the fence on their depiction of Riddler.

COVID is paying us a return visit.

We got a call Friday evening from my father-in-law's residence that his lady-friend with whom he lives (no, I shall not be elaborating) was going to hospital with generalized pain and malaise, especially chest pain. The nurse said my FIL wasn't very stable physically and to watch him. He is generally unstable on his feet so not surprising. Off we go, and not only does he not have the strength to get up from his armchair but his cognition is spotty. He also seemed to have a low-grade fever but we couldn't find a thermometer to verify.

I spent the night in the chair next to him and, when he wasn't better the next morning, I called an ambulance. When we went in to see him yesterday evening in the ED, the nurse confirmed a positive COVID test. Nobody contacted us, and I practically had to sit on the nurse's station table to get her attention.

I just have congestion in my throat but the test line is nice and dark. Mrs. Parent's is fainter but there.

Thank your to attending my self-pity talk.

I went back to my old elementary school and told my guidance counselor I was being bullied, like they said I should if it ever happened.

They told me they were going to call the police if I didn’t leave.
Did you slash all of their tires or wimp out and just do one?

Still, it was a good movie.

I actually just re-watched most of it the other week. I've said before here: I thought it was more good than great. But like you, I appreciated the clarity of the vision. It's no secret it was going for a Fincher-noir vibe, but it nailed it, and the photography was gorgeous. Batman has always been my favorite, and the lack of CGI overload about it is nice. I'm a Matt Reeves guy though. I think War for the Planet of the Apes is one of the best blockbusters of the last decade. The worst part of "cinematic universes" is that artistic vision is way way down the list. And the individual movie (or a trilogy or what have you) lacks a self-contained feeling and arc that's just more cathartic.

To the movie's credit, regarding the darky dark darkness, I do think it tries to establish that it's Bruce Wayne's emotional nadir. In the beginning, he's questioning if he's only made things worse; he's a husk; he's *ahem* Vengeance. And the ending monologue is much more hopeful, if a bit on the nose: "Vengeance, won’t change the past. Mine… or anyone else’s. I have to become more. People need hope. To know someone’s out there for them." At the same time, I think the movie needed a stronger Bruce-Alfred connection besides a bedside monologue. I know I said he's a husk, but the Bruce Wayne character could've used more fleshing out too.

The scene early on where he slowly emerges from the shadows like a monster to kick the shit out of that gang in the subway is one of the best in any Batman movie. Overall I really liked it. Its basically the Se7en of superhero movie. Still though, im on the fence on their depiction of Riddler.

I think the world of Paul Dano......and I also think he over-did it? He turns from self-satisfied mastermind with bursts of rage to jumping around wailing total loon one step away from defecating himself. To paraphrase Tropic Thunder: never go full psycho.
